Not only did Ying City have rats, but other cities had rats, too.
Apart from rats, there were various underground lifeforms: centipedes, ants, moles, and even some snakes and frogs.
These things were the kings of the underground.

The difference from other underground lifeforms was that the mutated ants preferred to pull the lifeforms they hunted above ground back down into their holes to feast.
They didn’t like rats, moles, and snakes.

But before they could get to the surface, they bumped into Ying City’s mutated rat army.
Facing an opponent many times fewer than their numbers, the mutated rats were courageous.
The conflict happened instantly. Numerous lives clashed and used their abilities in the soil.
Due to the intense fights, the ground split open like an earthquake, causing one region to collapse. The energy and dirt that seeped out from that area were like blades that turned the place into a restricted zone.
This huge commotion terrified not only the evolved above but also Guang Yao. He was nervous because he was afraid that if the effect of this area increased and caused chaos throughout the battlefield, that would be a huge problem.
Fortunately, the way the underground lifeforms fought was much better suited for the underground. Be it the soil or the various water pipes, these were places that those lifeforms would choose.
The first batch of mutated ants were surrounded and killed within a few minutes.
Although the ants killed a similar amount of rats, this was due to their thick shell and different attack methods—especially the poison. Before the rats could get close, they were able to deal a huge amount of damage.

The battle underground was intense, and so was the battle above.

On some other vehicles, there were small cannons similar to mortars. They weren’t crystal weapons but elemental weapons that used wind element energy to attack.
Ball Blade Mortar.
This was the name of this weapon.
Ye Zhongming didn’t craft these; they came from another Smith in Cloud Peak, who modified the materials and gave them to Ye Zhongming.
Not everyone had as much mental energy and a high success rate as Ye Zhongming. The Wind Ball Mortars took a long time to craft and only reached a small scale today.
That Smith used many mental energy potions and roughly half a year to create 200 mortars.
Now, this was the first time they were being used on the battlefield.
It looked like a mortar, and the way it was fired was similar. The difference was that it didn’t fire cannonballs but energy bullets. There were two types that you could select. One was wind blades, and the other was a wind ball.
The former was fast and penetrative. They were sharp like blades and dealt heavy single-target damage. THe latter was slow and had a smaller range, but it would explode and deal AOE damage.
Each of them fired a few dozen wind-blade attacks and around twenty wind-ball attacks. After which, they would run out of energy and need to charge in a place with wind currents. The charging time would depend on the speed of the air currents. It would take around a day to fill if the wind is suitable.
Be it Violent Lightning Turret or this Wind Ball Mortar, they were prepared by Cloud Peak to deal with flying mutated lifeforms.
As the apocalypse progressed, the threats from the skies increased.
Beside the vehicles with the two weapons were the female guards and warriors holding two thousand rpgs. There were also around five thousand ranged evolved standing around.
They were either job users like archers, shooters, mages, etc, or they were holding various guns or crossbows. Li Qiang led them and were the outline of Cloud Peak’s air defense force.
This air force waited for orders as they looked at the mutated lifeforms getting close.
The battle continued in the city. But if you looked closely, you would see that the various forces weren’t heading forward but retreating!
