"Just don''t be so reckless again." Marion tapped her forehead. "Next time something like this happens, tell me right away. I can get the blood."
"How are you going to do that?" Debra asked.
He didn''t answer, and she sighed, "You see, the blood bank has plenty of supply. But that blood is meant to save lives. I don''t care what you did before, but from now on, we can''t do that. That''s like stealing someone else''s chance to survive. After everything that''s happened, I believe in karma. I don''t want us to end up paying the price one day."
"Alright. I''ll just pay them to donate it. How about that?"
"Good. Today''s been exhausting. Let''s go to the hospital and check on Drake.
He''s awake now, and we can ask him what happened."
"Alright." Marion drove with one hand while holding Debra''s hand tightly with the other.
Debra could feel his warmth. It made her feel safe.
At the hospital, Drake was propped up against the bed.
By the time Debra and Marion arrived, it was already dark. The guards stood watch outside the door, never moving an inch.
Marion asked, "Anything suspicious?"
One of the guards replied, "Everything''s normal, sir."
Marion and Debra stepped inside the room.
Marion said, "I''ve taken care of those people who hurt you. The casino is ruined, and that''s your issue to fix."
Drake couldn''t care less about the casino. He used to enjoy gambling, buttely, those life-or-death games had started to feel meaningless.
Debra crossed her arms. "Can we talk about it now? Why did people from the Illuminati take you?"
Drake frowned. "Where''d you hear about the Illuminati?"
"From Joe."
"He told you?"
Back when Jeffery died, they had interrogated Joe. But no matter what they did, the guy kept his mouth shut. In the end, they had no choice but to hand him over to the police.
Debra smiled, "I have my ways of making people talk. But I''m more interested in
how you ended up getting taken here and beaten to a pulp."
Drake leaned back. "You think you''re the only ones investigating the Illuminati? Ever since that night at the Jovial Hotel, I''ve been looking
into it."
Debra let out a sharpugh. "You kept it a secret so well, never intending to say a word?"
Drake''s voice was t. "It was my business. Didn''t concern you."
Debra wanted to snap at him, but seeing his bad condition, she held back.
"Fine. I''ll let it slide this time. But let me guess they tortured you this badly because you either know something they want, or you''ve got something they need. Did you find anything during yourst trip?"
