Marion spoke. "We prefer not to be disturbed. Have the staff leave the estate for
the next few days."
"Understood." The butler nodded.
Debra didn''t know Marion owned such arge estate overseas.
"This ce looks like it''s been around for a while. When did you buy it?"
"I didn''t buy it. This estate used to belong to the Bernard family."
"So, it was owned by Cathryn, right?"
"She mortgaged it to Conrad, and after the Jovial Hotel incident, it was transferred to Drake."
He pulled out a set of keys. "Drake gave these to me, saying he reced everyone here with people he trusts. We''ll stay for a while. Maybe we can dig up something useful."
Debra looked around the estate. "You used to live here, right?"
"Yes." Marion nodded and added as Debra inspected the building. "Shawn had a lot of influence overseas. Even now, some old associates are still loyal to him. I cleared out most of the opponents, but some diehards are still out there. Compared to my house, this ce is safer."
"I can tell. I saw plenty of rm systems when we first came in. Security measures here are tight."
Anyone who had been dominant overseas was bound to have their fair share of friends and enemies.
Security measures were necessary for them, and the Bernard Mansion was like an iron fortress.
"Which room did you live in?" Debra asked.
Marion speared a piece of beef with his fork and ced it on her te.
"Let''s eat first," he said, avoiding the subject.
"You don''t want me to see it?" Debra rested her chin on her hand. "Afraid I''d find something I shouldn''t? Like a teenage boy''s love letters to bis crush or something?"
Marion chuckled, "You know you''re the only one I''ve ever had feelings for."
"Then take me to see it," Debra insisted.
Marion sighed, "That ce is shabby. I..."
"It''s fine," Debra interrupted. "It''s a part of your past I don''t want to miss."
Marion pinched her cheek. "Alright, I''ll take you."
Debra put down her knife and fork and followed him to the elevator.
The goons were under strict orders not to
was working hours, and the was at the estate
stick around Shawn.
The elevator descended. When the doors opened, it revealed a dim hallway lined with old, flickering lights. It stood in stark contrast to thevishness of the main estate.
Since Shawn died, no one had lived there.
