The doctor paused for a moment, then smiled warmly. "No, no, you''ve got it all wrong. Maybe I didn''t exin it well before. You just have a bit of a gynecological issue-it''s nothing serious. Some medication will sort it out. Honestly, almost every woman deals with something like this at some point. It''s really nothing out of the ordinary."
This time, the doctor exined things more thoroughly. Anastasia wasn''t dealing with an STD or anything like that. Her immune system was just a little run down, and the stress she''d been under made things re up.
"Eighty percent of women''s health issues are tied to stress, you know?" the doctor said. "People always say you can get sick from being upset and it''s true. If you''re in a good mood, your body tends to stay healthier."
She handed Anastasia a bunch of prescriptions and reminded her, "Remember to keep warm, stay clean, and most importantly-take care of your mood. That''s especially important. We women need to take it easy on ourselves and not let things get to us."
"Thank you, doctor." Anastasia was so relieved she nearly cried. All that worry had just been her imagination running wild.
Back in the hallway, Monica hurried over, eyes full of concern. "Ana, what did the doctor say?"
Anastasia shook her head, a little overwhelmed but smiling. "It''s fine. The doctor says it''s just a minor infection. She gave me some medicine."
"See? I told you it''d be alright. You just worked yourself up for nothing." Monica beamed, obviously relieved. "Do you need to pick up the meds? I''ll go with you." "Yeah, let''s go together," Anastasia agreed. “I want to stop by somewhere else afterward."
She was thinking of visiting Rowan. Last time, she''d shown up empty-handed; this time, she wanted to bring something nice.
"Wherever you want to go, I''m game," Monica said, grinning. "Whatever you want to do, consider me your sidekick for the day."
"If I hog all your time, won''t Jason get jealous?" Anastasia teased, finally starting to rx.
Monicaughed, her mood sunny. "He''s too busy chasing bad guys to even notice. We''ll have a feast tonight. Once he finally catches that serial killer, he''lle running back to me, no problem."
Monica had learned to go with the flow. With a boyfriend inw enforcement, she had little choice but to be understanding.
Anastasia looked at her, genuinely impressed. “Monica, you''ve really changed. You used to want your boyfriend at your beck and call around the clock. Now you''re totallyid back."
Monica grinned. "Well, what can I say? When your boyfriend works for the government, you learn to put the country first. Uncle Sam''s got dibs on his time."
Anastasia raised an eyebrow, curious. "So, how''s that case going?"
"Not sure," Monica replied. "But Jason says they''re about to close in."
At the police station...
Ever since Hank had gone undercover as a woman and caught Harry''s interest, Harry had been texting him sweet nothings practically every hour.
Hank was sticking to Jason''s strategy-no rushing into dinner dates. Just keep chatting, y it cool, and wait for the right moment.
After a couple of days of online banter, Jason finally messaged Hank: "It''s time. We''re ready to move."
Hank could hardly contain his excitement. "Copy that, Jason. Funny thing-the guy, Scalpel, that''s his screen name-he just asked me out for steak tonight. I''ll reply now."
Online, Harry went by "Scalpel" and hadn''t shared much except hisst name— Deng. That one detail was enough for Jason and Hank to pin down his real identity.
Meanwhile, Hank yed the part of "Crystal" in their chats.
He replied, and almost instantly, Harry texted back: "Crystal, can''t wait to finally
meet you tonight. I''m counting the hours."
Hank sent back a bashful emoji. "Me too. See you tonight!"
Jason and the rest of the team could see every message in real time. Jason almost burst outughing at Hank''s over-the-top flirty texts, picturing his tough colleague trying to act shy.
As Jason scrolled through the messages, a coworker walked by and caught him grinning. "What''s got you in such a good mood, Jason?"
"Just some good news," Jason replied, dodging the question. "I''ve got to run. Call me if anythinges up."
Jason wasn''t exactly thrilled with his temp desk job-his mind was always on the serial killer case.
He jumped in his car and called Hank. "I''m heading over to meet you now. Let''s
go through the n one more time..."
He had to make sure that when
Hank showed up to meet Harry in full disguise, there''d be no way he''d get recognized. Online, they could use voice changers, but face- face if Hank spoke in his regr voice, the whole operation could fall apart.
