Chapter 216

Jimmy, whose job kept him busy most of the time, typically didn’t reply quickly.

But since he was on vacation today, he responded promptly: “No, they didn’t know each other. Why do you ask?”

Rex ryed what had happened earlier to Jimmy.

Jimmy replied, “My father and grandfather have a good impression of Maggie and her grandmother. It might have something to do with that.”

Rex felt that Jordan’s attention toward Maggie was rather unusual.

Even if Jordan had a good impression of her, wasn’t it a bit far–fetched to be so familiar with someone he had only met once?

But since Jimmy said so, Rex decided not to probe further.

The weather forecast had predicted rain in the afternoon, and there was even a chance of snow.

Before the meal was over, Maggie noticed that it had indeed started raining outside.

After lunch, Jordan and the other officials continued to discussst year’s business performance and this year’s development ns with the business representatives.

Once Jordan and the others had thanked thepanies for their contributions to the city’s economy, the meeting officially came to an end.

After the meeting, Franklin and the others shook hands with Jordan and the other officials, preparing to

    leave.

When Franklin shook Jordan’s hand, Jordan reminded Maggie, “It’s really cold today, and I heard there’s thin ice on the roads. Be careful when driving.”

Maggie nodded, “I will, thank you, Mr. Hall.”

Maggie, Franklin, and the other business representatives left the building and headed to the parking lot.

Franklin stood next to her, saying, “It’s hard to walk in high heels. Be careful.”

Franklin spoke in front of everyone, so Maggie couldn’t ignore him. She responded, “Thank you, Mr.

    Wilson, I’ll be careful.”

As she heard his voice, an incident fromst year at a tech conference came to mind.

Back then, they had gone to dinner together, and she had identally slipped. He had avoided helping her, unwilling to make it look like anything personal.

    Now, however-

Franklin spoke with a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, even as he continued chatting with other business representatives. His tone toward Maggie was warm and familiar, and he had initiated the

    conversation.

The business representatives, including Rex, overheard their exchange.

Among those present were several businessmen who had also dined with them at the tech conferencest year.

Cole had risen to prominence by the end ofst year, so Maggie’s reputation in the business circle had significantly increased. Many people now assumed they knew about her rtionship with Johnny.

Of course, many still remembered the incident from the tech conference when Maggie had “pretended to trip” to flirt with Franklin, but he had remained indifferent.

    But now…

If Franklin’s concern for Maggie was simply out of politeness, considering the business rtionship between Wilson Tech and Cole, why didn’t he address her as “Miss Miller“?

His tone was so familiar, and he seemed to be genuinely concerned. It felt a bit… ambiguous.

Had Franklin, who had once avoided any signs of attraction, really been charmed by Maggie?

Rex hadn’t been at the tech conference, so he didn’t know about the “flirting incident.”

But now, after hearing their conversation, he couldn’t ignore the obvious familiarity between them. It didn’t seem like a mere misunderstanding.

He felt that Franklin was definitely drawn to Maggie, possibly even considering an affair.

With this thought in mind, Rex red at Franklin and Maggie, his face turning cold.

Knowing it was going to rain, Maggie had brought an umbre with her, but the cold wind was biting, and it stung her face.

Though the forecast had predicted rain and snow, she had expected that in early February, the snow wouldn’t be heavy, and it would likely melt on the ground quickly, leaving the roads not too slippery.

However, the icy conditions on the road were much worse than she had anticipated.

As she stepped out of the building, she slipped slightly on the stairs and became.cautious about walking.

People unfamiliar with her passed by, but Franklin stayed close by her side, showing no intention of leaving.

Some businesspeople who were familiar with Franklin exchanged knowing nces with him.

Rex, halting for a moment, was about to speak when-

Suddenly, Maggie lost her footing and slid forward, heading toward a fall.

In the blink of an eye, Franklin reacted swiftly, reaching out to catch her waist, stabilizing her, and before she could even realize what had happened, he swept her off her feet, lifting her into his arms.

Maggie’s face shifted slightly. She pushed against him and said, “Let me go-”

Franklin replied, “Hold the umbre steady.”

Before she could respond, he had already securely carried her down the stairs.

Then, still holding her, he turned to the others and said, “I’ll leave now. Let’s reschedule next time.”

The businessmen who were familiar with him were somewhat stunned. After all, Maggie’s rtionship with Johnny was well–known.

If Johnny had let her attend this government meeting as a representative of Cole, it meant their rtionship must still be going strong.

Franklin himself had a girlfriend, so even if he had developed feelings for Maggie, he should have been more cautious, especially in front of so many people.

To openly flirt and openly disregard Johnny–it felt like a p in the face.

And they all knew Johnny wasn’t someone to mess with.

Although they thought this, none of them said anything. They only gave awkward smiles, saying, “ge, we’ll set it up next time.”

With so many people watching, Maggie could only say, “Thank you, Mr. Wilson. Now that we’ve reached the stairs, I can walk on my own-”

Franklin, however, continued to hold her steady and walk toward the car.
