Gilbert’s emotions red. He grabbed Halsey by the shoulders and shouted, “Why? Why would you get pregnant with Shaun’s child?”


    Halsey stared at him coldly. “Let me say it one more time—we have nothing to do with each other. Who I’m having a child with is none of your business.”


    Gilbert tightened his grip on her shoulders.


    “Why can’t you give me another chance? I only made the kind of mistake all men make when they’re young! I’ve already cut ties with Sienna and those other women. Why won’t youe back to me? You know you were born into privilege. No matter how much Shaun tries to dress himself up, he’s still just some poor kid. He’s not from our world. We are! We’re the ones who truly


    match!”


    Halsey actuallyughed-she really didugh out loud.


    “How can you shamelessly say you just made the kind of mistake all men make? You couldn’t keep it in your pants! You let yourself get caught up in the temptation of the outside world. Do you even love me? No, you’re just obsessed with not getting your way. This is about ego and control. You don’t love anyone but yourself!” she sneered.


    Gilbert tried to exin. “I-”


    Halsey cut him off.


    “And another thing-you and I were never part of the same world. Shaun and I are. So what if he didn’te from money? He’s a rising star in business now. He’s everything I love-smart, driven, brave, and strong. I love him. He’s the only one I’ve ever


    loved.”


    She ced a hand on her t stomach.


    “Yes, I’m pregnant with Shaun’s baby. Do you know how happy that makes me? This is our child. I’m going to be a mom, Shaun’s going to be a dad.”

    Gilbert was already furious, but hearing her say all that made the veins on his forehead start to pulse. His anger boiled over as he shoved Halsey against the wall, eyes dark with rage.


    “You belong to me! No one else can have you!”


    He leaned in to kiss her.


    Halsey turned her face away and yelled, “Let go of me! Don’t touch me!”


    The next second, a strong hand reached over, grabbed the back of Gilbert’s cor, and yanked him away.


    Gilbert’s moment was cut short. He whipped around in a fury, ready to curse. “Who the hell are you-Shaun?!”


    Halsey looked up as well and saw Shaun standing there.


    Shaun had arrived.

    Without a word, Shaun punched Gilbert square in the face. Gilbert staggered back several steps and mmed into the wall.


    Shaun stormed up, grabbed Gilbert’s cor, andnded another hard punch. Blood spilled from the corner of Gilbert’s mouth and smeared across his face.


    A passerby gasped and shouted, “Someone’s fighting!”


    Shaun’s eyes were icy as he red down at Gilbert. “Touch her again, and you’re dead!”


    Then, he threw another punch.


    Halsey rushed forward. “Shaun, stop! That’s enough! He’s bleeding already. This is a hospital; you can’t be fighting here!”


    Gilbert tried to swing back, but Shaun’s next punch knocked him t to the ground.


    Gilbert might be impressive among rich kids, butpared to Shaun, a man who had fought his way up from nothing, he didn’t stand a chance. He was too soft-he had no way to fight back.


    Halsey tugged on Shaun’s arm. His fists, hidden under his neatly tailored shirt, were frighteningly powerful. Just watching him made her heart pound in fear.


    “That’s enough. Please, stop hitting him!”
