Elise couldn’t believe it. She had only been working as Shaun’s secretary for a few days, and now. she was fired.


    This was the only way she could get close to him; Shaun firing her meant no more chances to see him. If she wanted to meet him again, she would probably have to make an appointment.


    Elise’s face went pale. “Mr. Lane, please give me one more chance! I swear I’ll change, I really will…”


    Shaun had no patience for her. “I only give one chance. You haven’t taken your job seriously and have been too focused on me. I don’t keep people like you around. Just leave.”


    Beforeing to the vi, Elise had imagined a bright future. Now, she was thrown into darkness.


    “But-”


    “Not leaving on your own? Then I’ll have someone make you leave! Security!”


    Two ck-suited bodyguards entered quickly. “Yes, Mr. Lane?”


    “Throw her out.”


    “We’re on it.” The two bodyguards grabbed Elise on each side. “Move it!”


    Elise burst into tears. Her dream of marrying into wealth was shattered. “No, please!”


    They dragged her away.


    Halsey was happy. Seeing Shaun get rid of Elise so decisively right in front of her made her feel great.


    “So, you just fired Elise just like that? You really don’t know how to treat women kindly.”


    Shaun smiled slightly and pinched Halsey’s chin. “Don’t act innocent when you’re clearly getting the better end of this.”


    “What do you mean? I’m not!”


    “You’re not? Then I’ll call Elise back right now.”


    Halsey’s eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare!”


    Shaun chuckled, his tone low and soft. “Are you jealous?”


    “Jealous? Me?”


    “Ever since I hired Elise as secretary, I noticed something was off with you. Isn’t that jealousy?”


    Halsey suddenly realized something. “Did you hire her to make me jealous?”


    Shaun raised an eyebrow, realizing she was catching on.


    “I see. So, you hired Elise on purpose. You must’ve known she kept picking fights with me, too. You saw everything she did and didn’t stop her. You just wanted to watch how I’d react. You wanted to see me get jealous!”


    A smile flickered in Shaun’s eyes. “You’re finally getting smart! Elise’s education and ability aren’t enough to impress me. She’s not even qualified to be my secretary. If it weren’t for you, do you really think I’d hire her? I keep her around because she has value-and that valuees from you.”


    Halsey was speechless.


    She realized Shaun was really different. He was so calcting, like a big, bad wolf waiting for a littlemb like her to fall right into his trap.


    She clenched her fist and punched him lightly. “You’re so annoying!”


    Shaun pinned her gently to the big bed. Since she was pregnant, he carefully kept his hands away from her belly.


    Smiling, he said, “Isn’t it true that women love men who are a little naughty? I just wanted to see if you’d get jealous over me.”
