Chapter 1389

    ?Chapter 1389:

If he wanted help now, it was clear Cedric was his only hope. Niks clenched his jaw and turned to face him.

Cedric met his gaze, guilt flickering across his face, but he remained silent.

“If you send me out now, tomorrow’s headlines will call you the brother who left me to die in the street,” Niks said, his voice cracking. “Is that what you want?”

A quietugh drifted from across the room. Carol was chuckling, and even Dani’s lips twitched into a smile.

Niks stood there, pletely defeated. Their amusement was impossible to ignore—how could they find this funny?

“I’m not asking for much,” he said stiffly. “Just a room. And…”

He swallowed hard, almost begging for more help, but Dani’s cold stare stopped him. No words were needed—her expression warned him enough.

“Just a room,” he repeated. “It’s only temporary.”

He had finally epted that Dani wouldn’t lift a finger. There was no point expecting warmth from her.

Turning back to Cedric, his eyes pleaded. Cedric hesitated, then said, “I need to check with my wife. Give me a moment.”

Niks stared at him in disbelief. Rage burned beneath his embarrassment. “I’m only asking for a room, and you need her approval? You can’t even make that decision yourself? Cedric, you’re pathetic.”

When Niks called Cedric pathetic, Cedric remained unmoved—but Dani’s expression instantly turned icy. “And who exactly are you calling pathetic?” she spat.

There wasn’t a trace of warmth in her tone. Niks’s pride shattered in an instant.

“You either do as you’re told or get out. Is that clear?” Dani rarely lost her temper, but when she did, her stern demeanor was downright intimidating. Even the housekeeper froze in ce—she had never once seen Dani truly angry before.

Niks clenched his jaw, frustration written all over his face. Cedric nced between them, then stepped toward Dani. “Why not let him stay? He does look miserable.”

Dani shrugged. “If it works for you, keep him. If not, toss him out. Do whatever you think is best.”

Niks’s temper red. “Seriously, Dani? That’s unfair! I just said one thing, and you’re ready to throw me out. But Cedric? He can do whatever he wants?”

Dani’s eyes narrowed. “So what? Am I not allowed to be unfair? I’m human, after all.”

He threw up his hands. “Are you two just teaming up to mess with me now? Have you forgotten why I had to leave my family? Do you think I’d be here taking this if I had another option?”

Dani folded her arms. “And why exactly are you in this situation? Go ahead—tell us.”
