    Chapter 1993 Just Quit

"Do you still keep in touch with him now?" Magnus asked.

Denise shook her head. "We haven''t been in touch for a long time. I heard he''s already married and has a child."

She appeared to be quite nonchnt.

Magnus, however, perceived a sense of loss deep within her eyes, which inexplicably stirred difort within him.

"So, he knew about your family situation and that was why he agreed to break up with you?" Magnus probed.

Magnus kept questioning her, which made her somewhat unhappy. "What''s the matter with you today? Are you investigating my past?"

    "I was just asking."

Quickly, Magnus lowered his head, sipping the oatmeal from his bowl.

Even though it was sweet, for some reason, it tasted somewhat bitter to him.

"What''s there to question?" Denise articted each word meticulously. "Isn''t this just how the adult world works? We''re not living in a TV drama. Everyone''s just trying their best to survive, not wanting to be a burden to anyone else."

Magnus kept his head down, not daring to meet Denise''s gaze again. "If it were me, I wouldn''t have done it."

"Maybe it''s because you had such a good life before," Denise spected, now certain that Magnus must have been the son of a wealthy family in the past.

After all, that guy named Sven from that day was clearly no ordinary person. Sven had also advised her to give Magnus a bit of a hard time.

Denise felt that a wealthy person wouldn''t go out of their way to make life difficult for a poor person without reason.

"My life is pretty rough right now, but I wouldn''t have it any other way. If I were with you, we''d bear the burden together," Magnus stated, each word spoken with absolute certainty.

After hearing that, Denise couldn''t help but chuckle. "Forget it."

She had long since passed the age of daydreaming.

However, she suddenly halted her actions, gazing nkly at Magnus. "Magnus, why are you suddenly saying all this? Could it be that you''ve fallen for me?"

    Fallen for her...

Magnus'' body stiffened, as if all the blood in his body had frozen solid. He remained in a daze for quite some time.

Denise nudged him. "Do you really like me now?"

Finally regaining hisposure, Magnus quickly denied, "Are you

kidding me? You''re such a fierce

    me?

woman. There''s no way I would like

you. You have no idea how gentle, beautiful, and well-shaped my ex-girlfriend was..."

Upon hearing Magnus'' words, Denise let out a sigh of relief.

"That''s good because you really shouldn''t fall for me. I''m not into men like you.”

"What''s wrong with a man like me?" Magnus hastily retorted, "Am I worse than your ex-boyfriend?"

"Of course, there''s noparison between you and him," Denise said calmly before lowering her head to continue sipping the broth.

Meanwhile, Magnus felt himself sinking into a bit of mncholy.

"Tell me,” he asked, "in what way am I inferior to your ex-boyfriend?"

It was the first time someone hadpared him unfavorably to another man.

"You two are from different worlds. It''s not fair topare. Now, hurty up and eat. Rest once you''re full: I still have to go to work tonight." Denise clearly didn''t want to continue the conversation

No matter how much Magnus pressed her for answers, she kept evading his questions.

Once Magnus had had his fill of food and drink, she helped him tidy up his belongings. Then, she brought him a few clean clothes.

"Take a showerter and change into this. You reek of alcohol," she suggested.

"Thank you," Magnus said, his face etched with unhappiness as he expressed his gratitude.

Observing that his condition had significantly improved, Denise prepared to leave. "Where are you going?" Magnus asked, as if he was checking on her.

"I''m going to work my part-time job."

Working during the day hardly brought in any money, so Denise didn''t want to waste her time.

"You work nights and hold a

part-time job during the day. Don''t

you need rest? Just quit. As I''ve said

before, I''ll give you the money learn,”

    Magnus said earnestly.

"No, I don''t want to rely on others."

Once Denise finished speaking, she disregarded Magnus'' objections and left the

    ward.
