Reservation 37

“Let go of me, Zac!” Liz shouted.

Zac ignored herpletely and kept dragging her toward the exit.

Suddenly, Ethan stepped in and blocked his path.

“Mr. Lincoln, can’t you see she’s injured? And clearly, she doesn’t want to go with you,” Ethan said calmly.

Zac stopped and turned to re at him. His gaze was sharp enough to cut.

Just locking eyes with him made Ethan feel like cold steel was scraping across his skin. But he stood firm. He met Zac’s gaze head-on, refusing to back down or show a hint of fear.

“She’s my girlfriend. If she’s noting with me, who is she going with? You?” Zac asked coldly.

Ethan gave a faint smile. “If I’m not mistaken, news of you cheating on her with your secretary just hit the trending searches a few days ago. Didn’t yourpany also release a statement confirming that you and Liz had already broken up?”

Zac’s expression grew even darker, and the atmosphere around him turned suffocating. “This is between me and her. It has nothing to do with you.”

“Liz is my friend,” Ethan said steadily. “And right now, Mr. Lincoln, you’re clearly not thinking straight. I can’t stand by and let you hurt her.”

    “Move,” Zac growled.

Ethan stayed exactly where he was.

The tension between them was thick, the kind that made it hard to breathe.

Zac’s grip on Liz’s wrist suddenly tightened.

She winced. ncing down, she didn’t need to guess. She already knew there would be a bruise by morning.

Lifting her head, she stared him down. Her voice was calm, but her eyes were cold. “Zac, have you had enough?”

His body stiffened. He turned to her, rage building behind his eyes. “You think I’m the one making a scene?”

Liz yanked her hand away and looked him straight in the eye. Her tone was steady, clear, and cutting. “I told you we were done. You agreed. That means you no longer have any right toy a hand on me. Do you have any idea how pathetic you look right now? You cheated on me. You wanted me gone. And now that I’ve finally left, you’re the one who can’t let go.”

He had been the one to betray her, the one who pushed her out of his life over and over. He was the one who had forced her to walk away. And now, he couldn’t handle the consequences of his own actions.

Zac’s face went pale. His jaw clenched, and his eyes reddened with fury. “Say that again.”

“You heard me the first time,” she said firmly. “There’s no need to repeat it.”

With that, Liz turned to Ethan. “Let’s go.”

Ethan walked over and gently helped her as they made their way toward the elevator.

Zac stood frozen in ce, watching the two of them leave side by side. Their retreating backs felt like a sharp p to his pride.

His hand curled tightly into a fist. Every nerve in his body urged him to chase after them and pull them apart, but he forced himself to stay put.

If she could use another man in this little performance, then so could he.

Latey, an Liz sat down in the waiting area, the turned to Exhan with a small, apologetic smile.

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to drag you into all of that.”

She hadn’t expected to run into Zac at the hospital, especially not outside the outpatient clinic. Susan was admitted to the inpatient wing, which was several buildings away.

“It’s alright,” Ethan replied. “But… your ex doesn’t seem like he’s over you.”

He thought back to the look Zac had given him. It was the kind of re a man gave when someone took something he was not ready to lose. He had looked ready to start a fight

Liz gave a quiet, bitterugh. “You’re reading too much into it. If he really cared, he wouldn’t have cheated.”

Ethan noticed the flicker of pain in her eyes. There was still a trace of hurt that hadn’t fadedpletely.

To him, though, Zac’s behavior looked a lot like jealousy.
