Reservation 39

A gentle smile lingered on Ethan’s face. “It’s fine. I had a big lunch, so I’m not that hungry,”

Not far away, Zac watched them with a stormy expression. His entire presence radiated cold hostility, enough that Xena involuntarily shivered beside him.

Her hand instinctively tightened around his arm as a sense of unease crept into her chest.

Was it possible Zac still had feelings for Liz?

    “Zac, I’m starving. Should we-”

Before she could finish, Zac abruptly changed direction and headed straight toward Liz and Ethan’s table, dragging her along without a word.

Xena’s expression wavered. “Zac, our reservation is over there.”

“The private room feels stuffy. Let’s sit outside,” he said tly, giving her no room to object.

He led her to the table right next to Liz and Ethan’s and sat down.

Xena forced a smile, though it felt hard to maintain.

All Liz had done was have dinner with another man, yet Zac looked at her like a husband catching his wife cheating. He probably had no idea just how obvious his jealousy and anger were.

Xena lowered her eyes. Her nails dug into the flesh of her palm, but she couldn’t feel a thing.

Sensing someone nearby, Liz turned her head and met Zac’s cold, hostile stare.

She frowned slightly and nced around the restaurant.

There were plenty of empty tables, but Zac had chosen the one right next to theirs. It was clearly intentional.

“Zac, are you doing this on purpose?”

She truly didn’t understand. She had already walked away from his life. Why was he still trying to make things difficult for her?

Did he really need her to chase after him, to cling to him just to stroke his ego?

Zac met her gaze, his tone calm and aloof. “Unless I’m mistaken, you didn’t reserve the entire restaurant, did you?”

When Liz didn’t respond, he went on. “Then where I choose to sit has nothing to do with you. If you’re ufortable, you’re free to move.”

His smug tone made her frown deepen.

They had arrived first. There was no reason they should be the ones to move.

But arguing with Zac wouldn’t solve anything. Technically, he wasn’t wrong. He had every right to sit wherever he pleased.

Pushing down her irritation, Liz looked away and decided to pretend Zac and Xena weren’t even there.

She picked up the menu and smiled at Ethan. “Take a look. Their foie gras with ck truffle and filet mignon are both

    excellent.”

Ethan nodded. “Sounds good. I’ll go with your rmendation.”

“Feel free to order anything else that catches your eye.”

As the two of them chatted and smiled, Zac’s gaze grew colder by the second.

If looks could kill, Ethan would have been buried a dozen times over.

Of course, Ethan noticed the re being thrown his way, but he didn’t care. He stayed focused on Liz and kept the conversation going

Xena saw it all, and her heart sank lower and lower.

She used to convince herself that Zac had already let go of Liz.

But now, it was impossible to keep lying to herself.

She had done everything she could to drive them apart. She was just one step away from officially bing Zac’s girlfriend.

There was no way she would let Lize back into the picture.

Putting on her best smile, she turned to Zac. “Let’s order. Is there anything you rmend?”

Zac finally looked at her and picked up the menu. “We’re definitely getting the signature sirloin. Filet is for people who don’t know what they’re doing.”

His tone was thick with sarcasm, and he spoke just loud enough for Liz and Ethan to hear every word.

Liz clenched her jaw, trying her best to ignore him, but in the end, she couldn’t hold back.

She looked up, her voice icy and direct.

“If you’re not feeling well, Zac, maybe you should see a doctor. Try the psychiatric ward while you’re at it. And stop taking your issues out on everyone else.”
