Maddox
I came to a high–end luxury store after receiving a notification that my shirt was ready. The designer himself handed me the bag with my long sleeved white shirt inside it. Not only did it cost more than any other shirt I’d ever bought in my entire life, it was also a custom fit, tailored down to thest stitch. I could have had it delivered, but no, I wanted to be there and see the final product with my own eyes and it was worth it.
Holding onto the straps of the bag, I began to make my way to the exit of the store when a feminine voice came from behind me.
“Maddox?”
I turned quickly because the voice sounded unfamiliar, but as soon as I scanned her face, it took me less than a second to figure out who she was. We’d fucked before, back when I was in the mood for anything that walked in heels and moaned my name the right way. Even with all that, I couldn’t even remember her name.
She strutted towards me in her tailored suit, her hips swaying along with her short skirt.
“Who knew I’d be starting off this morning like this? It’s been over a year now.” She shed me a smile of invitation, tilting her head. “I tried to contact you a few times, but there was no call or text from you. After that night we spent together, I thought…”
She trailed off like she wanted me to fill in the nks.
I gave her the kind of smile people mistake for warmth, but the reality was that I was already halfway out of the conversation.
“Yup. Anyway, good to see you again. I have to go,” I said.
As soon as I turned around to continue making my way to the exit, she stopped me by grabbing my arm.
“Wait,” she said, ing to the front and leaning in like it was supposed to hypnotize me. “Maybe we should… see each other again?”
I looked down at her hand on me, then back up at her face as she fluttered her eyshes at me.
“If you mean like this, then yeah. You’ve seen me,” I said, pulling away from her grip.
Her lips parted like she was at a loss for words. I didn’t even stick around to figure out what she wanted to say.
I stepped to the side, hoping this was finally going to be the time I made it out of the door.
Just as I was approaching it, she spoke from behind me in a flirtatious tone. “Call me!”
Lazily, I waved my hand without turning around, letting her think whatever she wanted.
I got into my car while still thinking about what led to the night I had spent with that girl but quickly, I shut it out. I had more important things to think about. I had talked myself out of telling Grayson about Harper so
many times since the previous day but found myself unable to let things be as they were.
It was for this reason that I finally dialed his number, putting the phone on speaker while my eyes were on the road even though I hadn’t yet started the engine.
“Hello?” His voice was t, like he was talking to a stranger.
I wasn’t even about to dwell on that. I had one thing to do and no matter what, I was going to make sure I did

it.

“Are you with Tiffany?”
“She’s with her mom. Why?”
“There’s something you need to know about Harper.”
He sighed with irritation. “Just in case it hasn’t been clear that I don’t care anymore about-”
“She saw Anna.”
“What?” His voice was suddenly filled with surprise. “Where?”
I lightly shook my head at how that caught his attention.
“She saw her in London. Actually, it was just through my phone. Couldn’t stop her on time, but you should’ve seen her face just knowing that her sister is in London and she’s okay.”
“When did this happen?”
“Yesterday.”
“Yesterday? And you’re only telling me this now?” His tone was a little harsh.
“Yup. Harper even sent Anna a text to let her know, but nothing yet, as usual.”
“Wait, why are you even telling me?” His voice was softer again.
“Even with the shit going on between you two, you’ve known each other for years. You know how much this means to her and I know it matters to you too.”
He scoffed. “Now I’m supposed to thank you?”
Before hanging up, I said, “Don’t bother. I don’t need that from you. I did it for her.”
Harper
I was at the convenience store, getting a few items that had run out while on the phone with Aunt Patricia. I couldn’t even fully pay attention to the items I was there for as I kept ncing at Josh, who was standing at the register. There were a few times where it felt like he was watching me but each time I looked over, he wasn’t.

It was obvious that Tiffany had told him that I’d attempted to expose them.
While my n had blown up in my face, I wasn’t going to stay away from the store forever.
“I’m proud of you, my dear,” Aunt Patricia said from the other end of the line. “You did your part by contacting your sister yesterday.”
“Well, yeah, but you know how it goes with Anna and honestly, I wasn’t hoping for an immediate reply. Even if it takes her weeks to do it, that’ll be okay. It won’t even matter if she’ll push me away again. As long as she knows that I know where she is.”
“I’m hoping this is the moment she realizes that there’s no use in pushing you away.”
I smiled. “Yeah, Tracy and Penelope want us to hang out today since they don’t have too much going on, but I won’t be able to make it. I have so much to do.”
She chuckled. “Let me guess, they were extremely disappointed?”
“Yup.” I dropped a jar of peanut butter into my cart then made my way to the counter to get in line.
“The three of you can always hang out some other time. Besides, their college is just twenty minutes away from your home.”
“I promised them a good time once we’re all not so busy and I’ll make sure it happens. Don’t worry, no alcohol.”
She scoffed. “Like I’m actually going to fall for that. I have to get back to work. Later, dear.”
After the call, I slipped the phone back in my purse and at the same time, the woman ahead of me left. It was now my turn and Josh was waiting for me with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
