Mr and Mrs Aldridge took the seats at the ends of the table while Grayson and Tiffany sat right across from. Maddox and me.

Each time I came to the conclusion that all the food was served, the chefs kept returning with more to add to the table. The aroma was enough to make my mouth water.

In any other situation, it would’ve deeply hurt me to watch Grasyosn and Tiffany whisper to each other, knowing that despite everything that had happened, he was still the one.

But I didn’t get to see much as Maddox had my full attention, talking about Dante and how he’d take me to all his uing exhibitions. My genuine excitement seemed to get on Grayson and Tiffany’s nerves the one time I nced at them.

It was only when Mrs Aldridge cleared her throat and clinked a ss with a spoon that we all stopped talking and looked in his direction.

“When I said we had so much to talk about, I didn’t mean to yourselves.”

She rolled her eyes with a chuckle and paused, as if waiting for someughter, but that wasn’t as funny as she thought it was. Maddox and I even shared a knowing nce.

Quickly realizing it, she said, “Anyway, the menu today

was my idea. Enjoy!” <fn8c16> Discover more novels at find?novel</fn8c16>

She sat back down with a smile that faded when she nced at me.

I paid little attention to her as Maddox asked me what I wanted to have first since there was so much variety.

I first went for what made my mouth water the most and as we all began to

    speak, his tone polite.

faciat, Mr Aldridge was the first to

“So, Harper, it’s so interesting to me that you and my son–inw go way back.”

I paused with the fork in my hand, forcing myself to smile and I caught Grayson doing the same.

“Yes, we do. I’ve known him for years,” I said, my voice getting quieter towards the end as I thought about how he threw all that way for Tiffany.

“I remember seeing the two of you in the streets when you were younger, looking like you were looking for some trouble.”

“Well,” Mrs Aldridge annoyingly cut in. “Those days were fun while theysted. Grayson dear, if you could choose between going back to those days and this particr moment in time, what would it be?”

He chuckled in disbelief. “Do you even have to ask?” He lovingly looked at Tiffany. “I’d choose being here with my wife and our little one on the way over everything else.”

“Me too<i>, </i>babe.” Tiffany chimed in, her voice sweet.

“Aww. Isn’t this so romantic?” Mrs Aldridge said. “You two are such lovebirds!”

I was trying so hard not to roll my eyes at her. Mr Aldridge was only trying to get a conversation started and she flipped it so it wouldn’t be about me.

“So. Harper, how’s it so far working at DataSphere Solutions?” Mr Aldridge asked, still trying to keep the focus

    on me.

I smiled, appreciating his efforts to pay attention to me. “It was much easier in the beginning but now, the workload is too much. Sometimes I don’t even think I’llplete tasks on time.”

“Too bad none of us here can rte,” Mrs Aldridge annoyingly cut in again. “That’s because we don’t answer to anyone. Isn’t that right?”

She looked around the table for approval, Grayson and Tiffany being the only ones who nodded.

“I can’t be the only one here who’s curious.” Mrs Aldridge leaned forward, her eyes locked on Maddox and me. “We all know you’ve been messing around with each other for a while now and-”

Mr Aldridge loudly cleared his throat to keep her in check and she paused for a few seconds, as if to choose her next words wisely.

“When did you two decide to get together?” she said.

Maddox looked over at me. “It’s close to two weeks now. I just realized I wanted something more than what we had…because she’s amazing and when I told her, it turns out I wasn’t the only one feeling that way.”

“Well, better than nothing, right?” she mockingly said. “Did you know that there are some situations in which nothing is better?”

I raised my eyebrows a little in surprise at how that was obviously aimed at our fake rtionship..

“Son,” Mr Aldridge said, “you haven’t brought anyone home before. I’m d we finally get to share a moment like this.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if these two broke up tomorrow.” Mrs Aldridge chuckled with delight. “Knowing Maddox, he’ll get bored easily since this has been going on for a while. That’s why as a girl, you never give it all away before a rtionship turns-”

“Dad, I’ve decided to keep the center mansion in Larkspur Hills for myself,” Maddox sharply interrupted her.

Mr Aldridge nodded, like he was pleased. “That’s great. I was wondering if I’d hear something like that.”

“That ce was so huge that before Maddox took me there, he gave me a heads up to wear somefortable shoes,” I chimed in.

“That was great thinking.” Mr Aldridge pointed out.

“Wait, you went to Larkspur Hills?” Mrs Aldridge’s eyes narrowed. “When was this?”

“A while back.” Maddoxzily sipped from his ss.

“And why am I only finding out about it now?” She snapped a little, mainly because things weren’t going her

    way.

“Honey, leave him alone.” Mr Aldridge shut her up. “I thought I told you about it. I must have imagined it. The important thing is that he liked it enough to keep something for himself.”

She huffed, leaning back in her seat with pursed lips. For a moment, she seemed defeated. Then, she reached for her ss of water, bringing it to her lips but not drinking from it right away.

“Oh, Harper, I hate sitting here and pretending like we all don’t know what’s going through your head about Tiffany and what she did to youst week in London.”
