Forget the 9

    Back home, I started packing.

While the system wouldn’t let me control the appliances, I could at least pack my own belongings.

    Halfway through, Jaxon came home.

    “What are you doing?”

    “Moving out.”

He immediately grabbed the box from my hands. “You’re not leaving!”

“There’s no ce for me in this house anymore.”

I gestured at the smart devices.

“I’m just a guest, remember? Only the master can stay permanently.”

“I’ll have it changed immediately!” he said urgently. “I’ll delete all of Melody’s ess and give you full administrative rights!”

He actually started operating his phone.

    Minutester, the system announced:

“ess transferplete. Ms. Iris Sterling is now the primary administrator.”

“See?” He looked at me hopefully. “Now you’re the master of this house.”

Turns out it only took a few minutes to change the ess rights, but he still kept dying it.

I shook my head. “It’s toote.”

    “Iris!”

“Jaxon, don’t you understand?” I looked at him. “The problem isn’t ess rights–it’s your heart. Your heart has grand business visions and detailed life ns, but no room for me.”

“I do have room for you! Everything I do is for you!”

“No, it’s for your ideal life.”

“In your n, career sess by 30, financial freedom by 35, IPO by 40. The wife handles domestic duties and maintains your perfect image. I’m just a role in that n.”

    “It’s not like that…”

“Then tell me,” I asked him, “if I got sick and it interfered with your work, would you choose to stay with me or go to the

    office?”

    He fell silent.

“See? You know the answer but you don’t dare say it.”

    Suddenly, his phone rang–Melody.

He nced at it and hung up.

    But it immediately rang again.

“Answer it,” I said calmly. “It must be something ‘very important.“”

He reluctantly picked up. “What is it?”

“God! Jax!” Melody was crying on the other end.

“All the servers crashed! We can’t ess any data! All the materials for tomorrow’s IPO roadshow won’t open!”

Jaxon’s face went pale. “How is that possible?”

“I don’t know. Everyone from IT is here but no one can fix it… Jax, if tomorrow’s roadshow fails, thepany’s IPO n is

    ruined!”

    He looked at me, conflicted.

    “Go,” I said.

    “Iris…”

“This is who you are–there’s always something more important than me.”

    I pulled my suitcase.

“I’ll stay at Mom’s for a few days. Mywyer will send the divorce papers.”

“Wait!” He caught up. “I won’t go to the office. I’ll stay with you.”

    I stopped. “Really?”

“Really.” He put down his phone. “Nothing is more important than you.”

But within three seconds, his phone started vibrating frantically.

    Countless messages flooded in.

Seeing the screen, his fingers were trembling, cold sweat on his forehead.

    “Just go,” I sighed.

    “I…”

His phone kept ringing–Melody calling again.

This time he didn’t answer. He turned it off.

    “I choose you,” he said.

But watching his agitated state, the way he kept checking his watch, I knew his body was here but his heart had flown to the

    office.

    I shook my head.

    “Forget it.”

    “Forcedpanionship is meaningless.”
