Grandfather basically grounded Jake’s ass and kicked him out of thepanypletely.
Ryan had to deal with all the Pine Ridge bullshit now.
The whole house was like a tomb for days straight.
Jake holed up in his room, smashing bottles and getting wasted.
When he looked at me, he had murder in his eyes.
He stormed into my room and grabbed my wrist hard.
“ra, why the fuck did you do this to me?! What’s your game?!”
His eyes were bloodshot as hell, reeking of booze.
“Game? What game?” I yanked my arm away from him.
“All I did was tell Ryan a story I’ve known since I was a kid. You’re the one who didn’t believe some ‘hillbilly trash,‘ right?”
“You knew that ce was fucked up! Why didn’t you just tell me?!”
“Tell you? Would you have even listened?” Iughed in his face.
“You think I’m just some ignorant hick who got lucky after ten years of kissing ass. You think my word means jack shitpared to your fancy reports?”
He just stood there with his mouth hanging open.
Yeah, that was it.
He never actually respected me. Not once.
To him, everything I was worth came from passing his sick little test.
“Real nice, ra. Real fucking nice.” He was pointing at me, practically spitting mad.
“You think screwing up my project changes anything? I’m still an Ashford, bitch. I’ll bounce back. But you? You’ll always be nothing but my property!”
He mmed the door so hard the whole wall shook.
Whatever. Just a pathetic loser having a tantrum.
Sophia could tell Jake was totally fucked, and her meal ticket was gone. She was freaking out.
Now she was desperate as hell to hold onto Carson–her only way to stay in this family.
She started going full psycho, poisoning my kid against me even worse than before.
That day, I had the kitchen make Carson’s favorite dessert and brought it to his room myself.

Right outside his door, I heard Sophia’s voice.
“Carson, honey, listen to me. You can never, ever eat anything that woman gives you. She hates us, and she might put poison in your food to hurt you.”
I froze with the tray in my hands.
“Poison? Like the evil queen in Snow White?” My son’s voice had that innocent, scared little kid sound.
“Yeah, sweetie.” Sophia’s voice was all sugar and honey, but what she was saying was pure evil. “So you stay far away from her, okay? Only me. I really love you.”
When Sophia saw me standing there, she looked like she’d been caught stealing for a split second, but then got all calm again.
“Oh, Miss Montgomery… you really should knock first…”
I ignored the bitch and walked straight over to Carson, set the bowl down on his table.
“Carson, honey, Mommy made this just for you. Try it.”
Carson looked at Sophia all scared, backed away from me, shaking his head.
“Uh–uh. Mama Sophia says I can’t take stuff from strangers.”
He didn’t knock it over or anything, but that word-“strangers“-cut deeper than a knife.
Sophia looked at me with this smug–ass smile, eyes full of “got ya, bitch.”
She’d fucking done it-
Turning my own kid against me. Making him think his real mom was the enemy.
This time, I didn’t just walk away like some beaten dog.
I turned around, went to the corner, and pulled that tiny camera out from behind the books.
Then walked right up to Sophia, holding it where she could see it.
“Everything you just said? It’s all on here, bitch.”
Sophia’s face went white as a sheet.
She stared at the camera like it was a bomb, her mouth opening and closing like a fish.
“You… you set me up!”
“Takes one to know one.” I shrugged. “Compared to the sick shit you’ve been doing to my son, this is nothing.”
I pocketed the camera,
But this wasn’t enough.
I needed to expose this psycho in front of the whole damn family.
And I didn’t have to wait long for the perfect chance.
