Jeffrey remained silent, unmoved.

Reba, seeing his silence, swallowed her words and donned her headphones, shutting out the world.
The minutes ticked by until 11:59 PM.
Jeffrey nced at his watch. As the second hand aligned with twelve, he grabbed his phone and car keys, exiting with a door m. Reba checked the time, and it was 00:09 AM.
She ignored it, refocusing on her digital canvas.
Gregory awaited by the vehicle when Jeffrey descended.
He tossed the keys and settled into the seat, his tone icy. “Well?”
“Ms. Scott orchestrated the car ident as you suspected.” Gregory produced a file from the driver’s seat. “She tailed you after leaving Harmony Estate, only departing after you and Ms. Jensen took Samuel to the yground.”
Jeffrey’s aura chilled. Though aware of Andrea’s schemes, her self–endangerment still stunned him.
Gregory handed over his work phone. “The full footage from pre–crash to impact.”
Jeffrey opened it.
Andrea deliberately chose a high–traffic area to suddenly dart out. A loud crash echoed in the video, showing her being hit by a car.
Jeffrey’s tired brows knitted together, his eyes colder than ice as the car’s atmosphere plummeted instantly. “To the hospital.”
Gregory immediately started driving.
Andrea never imagined Jeffrey knew everything. When midnight came without his arrival and Stanley left too, her mental state grew more unstable.
She pulled out her phone to call Jeffrey.
Michelle stopped her. “What are you doing?”
“It’s past midnight.” Andrea’s entire body ached, but nonepared to the pain in her chest. “Even if he spent the day with that kid, he should be here now.”
Michelle thought she’d lost it, taking her phone. “He’lle if he wants without being called. Begging won’t help if he refuses.”
“Reba must be clinging to him,” Andrea insisted desperately. “That’s the only exnation.”

She reached over to grab the phone from Michelle’s hand. Michelle didn’t want to give it to her but worried that sudden movements might disturb the IV drip in her arm, so she ultimately let Reba take it.
The first call didn’t connect. She tried a different number on the second attempt.
Seeing the unknown number, Reba hesitated briefly before answering after five or six rings. “Hello, who’s calling?”
“Reba, how shameless can you be?” Andrea’s post–ident fragility and emotional turmoil made her vent fiercely. “After what’s happened to me, you still cling to Jeffrey.”
Reba was stunned. She nced at the screen, realizing this must be Andrea’s alternate number.
Andrea kept raging. “Do you even have any shred of decen―”
Reba hung up without hesitation. She couldn’t be bothered to feel angry.
Andrea couldn’t tolerate this dismissal. Post–surgery difort amplified her irritation, driving her to redial Reba’s number for confrontation.
The same automated message yed as with the first number. She’d been blocked again.
“Hand me your phone.” Andrea couldn’t ept losing so much without receiving Jeffrey’s concern, having intentionally crashed the car to make her staged ident convincing.
The oue was nothing like she’d imagined. Jeffrey hadn’t abandoned Reba and Samuel toe to the hospital with her, nor did he show any concern when she got hurt.
She wasn’t nearly as important in his heart as he’d imed. He simply didn’t care about her at all.
“Stop acting crazy,” Michelle said, finding her too extreme. “Don’t forget Reba is still Jeffrey’s legal wife. What right do you have to say those things?”
Andrea clenched her fists. “I saved his life.”
Michelle pressed, “And?”
Andrea looked at her in confusion. ‘And what? Jeffrey had promised to take care of me and give me everything I wanted,‘ she thought.
“I don’t know why you’re so set on having a romantic rtionship with Jeffrey,” Michelle advised. “Why not take the money and live a carefree life?”
“No!” Andrea blurted out.
If her secret about recing Reba stayed buried forever, great. But if it came out… If she took the money and left now, Jeffrey would have countless ways to make her repay every penny once he learned the truth.
Her only gamble was making him fall for her. If she seeded, even if the truth came out, he might show her leniency for the sake of their bond, just like he currently did with Reba.

“But what’s the point of torturing yourself like this?” Michelle asked with clear–headed logic that cut through Andrea’s delusions. “Don’t you already know he’ll never return your feelings?”
Those words madest night’s conversation rey painfully in Andrea’s mind.
She shook her head. “No…”
Jeffrey only rejected me because he hadn’t discovered my virtues yet. With more contact and opportunities to reveal my strengths, he’d surely fall for me eventually.
‘If someone as mediocre as Reba could win his heart, then I–who outshine her in every way–deserve his affection tenfold,‘ she thought.
Behind the hospital room door, Jeffrey listened with an unsettling calmness that made Gregory shift uneasily beside him.
The door creaked open.
Andrea’s eyes lit up at his arrival. She struggled upright despite her IV lines, desperation coloring her voice. “Jeffrey, what took you so long? Don’t you know—”
“Stay down.” Jeffrey’s chillymand halted her when he noticed blood backing up in the IV tube.
The sharp tone instantly subdued Andrea. She acquiesced. “Of course. I’ll listen to you.”
She instantlyy down properly, gazing at him with hopeful anticipation like awaiting praise.
Jeffrey’s expression remained unreadably neutral.
“Did you just finish work?” Andrea felt uneasy under his steady gaze.
“Yup,” Jeffrey responded.
“I didn’t mean to disturb you. The ident hurt so badly that I thought I might die.” Andrea’s voice trembled.
“I asked Michelle to call because I feared it might be myst chance to see you.”
The suffocating silence intensified until Michelle excused herself from the tense ward.
Fidgeting with her bedsheet, Andrea ventured, “Jeffrey, are you angry with me?”
