Chapter 95
When Reba got back upstairs, she found Jane waiting for her in the break room.
Jane asked casually, “How’d it go? You good?”
“Yeah, I’m good,” Reba replied honestly.

Alexander had been beaten down by Jessica once, and Reba had confidence that he wouldn’t darey a finger on her.
Jane said, “Stay with me tonight. If anyone tries anything, I’ve got your back.”
Reba couldn’t help feeling curious.
Jane asked, “What’s up?”
Reba said, “If trouble reallyes tonight, it’ll probably be from someone with more power than Alexander. I should take care of it myself.”
Jane raised an eyebrow and asked, “You don’t trust me?”
Reba replied, “I trust you. That’s exactly why I think I should deal with it myself.”
Jane was effortlessly cool and always made Reba feel at ease. Reba believed that no matter who tried to stir up trouble, Jane could sort it out.
But if Jane got involved, those people would start targeting her too—and Reba didn’t want toplicate Jane’s world or drag her down into this mess.
Jane said, “Alright then. If anything happens, juste to me.”
Reba nodded.
The whole afternoon flew by with Reba following thepany’s schedule, running through rehearsals for the big event. She, Jane, E, and a few others got slotted into a mid–show spot.
Soon, it was six in the evening. The tenth anniversary celebration of Primey Technologies started right on schedule.
The host fired up the crowd, talking passionately about Primey’s rise over the years, before handing the mic to a few of the higher–ups for their speeches.
All the employees were seated neatly in the hotel’s main hall, and Reba was right there among them.
Once the speeches were over, the performances began. One by one, people went up as their names were called. When it was almost time for Reba and her crew to perform, they slipped backstage to get ready.
Meanwhile, Stanley and Jeffrey were up on the second floor, watching everything as it happened.

Stanley scanned the crowd downstairs, then turned to Jeffrey and said, “Those guys are headed our way. You really just gonna sit back and watch them cause trouble for Reba?”
Jeffrey didn’t say a word, keeping silent.
Stanley pressed, “You sure you won’t regret this?”
Instead of answering, Jeffrey asked, “Didn’t you say you weren’ting?”
“I was just worried you might have to leave early and wouldn’t be able to keep things under control here. So I figured I woulde and help you,” Stanley replied, sounding all sincere.
Jeffrey didn’t even bother calling him out on it.
Stanley shifted his gaze away from the stage and asked, “How’s Andrea holding up?”
Jeffrey replied, “She’s still in the hospital, recovering.”
“So, if she calls youter, are you gonna go see her or stick around here?” Stanley asked.
Jeffrey shot him a cold look.
Stanley pped himself and said, “Okay, I’m smacking myself for that one.” He had no idea he’d just jinxed it.
Meanwhile, Reba was backstage, changing clothes with Jane and the others. She was halfway through when her phone started buzzing. Seeing it was an unknown number, she answered, worried it might be something about the anniversary event.
“Hello, who’s this?” she asked casually, still pulling her shirt on.
Andrea’s voice came through on the other end. She said, “Reba, do you know where Jeffrey is? I’ve been trying to call him, but I just can’t get through.”
Reba blinked in disbelief, staring at her phone like she’d just seen a ghost.
Reba’s jaw practically dropped as she gawked at her phone, totally thrown off by the call. She thought, ‘Didn’t I block her number?‘
Andrea raised her voice and said, “Is he with you at Primey’s tenth anniversary event? Can you go find him for me? I’m not feeling well right now, and I’m really struggling.”
“How much are you paying?” Reba asked, totally unfazed–she was used to Andrea’s tricks by now.
Andrea paused, clearly not expecting that response.
Reba said, “If it’s less than 30 million, forget it, I don’t have time for small–time gigs like this.”
Andrea said, “I…”
Before Andrea could finish, Reba bluntly hung up.

The crew nced over, curious about the conversation.
E asked, “Reba, who was that?”

“Just a scammer, nothing worth fussing over. I just messed with them for a bit,” Reba shrugged as she slipped into her dress. She threw on a quickyer of makeup and styled her hair in record time.
Jane and the others were blown away by how fast she was.
With less than half an hour to go before showtime, Reba helped everyone finish their makeup, fix their hair, and add the final touches to their essories after they changed.
“With skills like yours, why aren’t you a pro makeup artist?” E said, genuinely amazed by the magical transformation Reba pulled off.
Reba paused, thinking, ‘Good point. Maybe I could pick up some makeup gigs on the side.’
Twenty minutester, it was showtime for Reba and her crew–their act was called “Legends of y” based on Primey Technologies‘ very first game.
Reba took the piano, while the other four cosyed as characters from the game, really bringing the world to life.
The theme for the tenth anniversary celebration was “Staying True to Our Roots.”
Seeing that, Reba did some research on everything Primey Technologies had ever done, and ended up picking this performance as the best fit.
Stanley said, “Wow, I didn’t know Reba could work a crowd like this. If the founders of Primey Technologies saw this, they’d be on their feet giving her a standing ovation.”
Jeffrey’s eyes were locked on Reba.
Sitting on stage with pure elegance, Reba let her slender, pale fingers dance across the ck–and–white keys. For the first time in ages, she looked genuinely at ease, her confidence shining through.
Stanley couldn’t help but notice how intensely Jeffrey was watching her. He was just about to make a snarkyment when his phone suddenly buzzed in his pocket. He answered, “Hello?”
Andrea’s voice came through, saying, “Mr. Garcia, it’s Andrea.”
Stanley froze for a second, instinctively ncing over at Jeffrey, who was standing right next to him.
Noticing Stanley’s stare, Jeffrey asked casually, “What’s up?”
Andrea said, “Is that Jeffrey? Is he with you? Can you pass the phone to him? I’ve been trying to call him, but I can’t get through”
Stanley was tempted to say no, but Andrea had already recognized Jeffrey’s voice; any denial now would only
make him look worse.

Jeffrey thought Stanley had something to take care of, so he said, “If you’ve got something to do, go ahead. We’re good here.”
Stanley handed the phone over and said, “It’s for you.”
Jeffrey shot him a puzzled nce before taking the phone. He answered, “Hello?”
Time ticked by. Jeffrey’s expression grew even calmer–so calm it felt like the quiet before a storm.
Stanley thought, ‘Stupid mouth–why did I have to go and make a guess like that?‘
“Alright, I’ll be right there,” Jeffrey said, sounding as cool as ever. But if one watched his hands, one’d see his knuckles turning white–he was gripping that phone way tighter than before.
