Jeffrey left around the same time as the police officers. But instead of driving away immediately, he sat in his car, staring up at the high–rise where Reba was.
About ten minutester, Gregory arrived. “Boss.”
“Got the results?” Jeffrey asked.
“Yeah.” Gregory handed over a file. “Multiplebs confirmed it. Richard isn’t Ms. Jensen’s father. No blood rtion at all.”
Jeffrey flipped through the documents.
Just as Gregory had said, Reba wasn’t Richard’s kid.
“Do you want me to look into Ms. Jensen’s real father?” Gregory asked.
“No need,” Jeffrey replied coolly. “Now that we’ve cleared up Amelia’s situation, we’ll get a lead on Reba’s father anyway.” He added, “When did Amelia and Richard get married?”
“They got their marriage license in April, which was less than five months before Ms. Jensen’s birthday,” Gregory replied.
So, Richard probably knew Amelia was already pregnant back then.
“I looked into it in detail. On the surface, it seems like Richard and Amelia had a shotgun wedding. But when I questioned the Jensen family about when their rtionship actually started, every single person gave a different answer,” Gregory said, sounding a little intrigued.
Jeffrey ran his fingers over the test results, deep in thought.
“Also, just as you guessed, Amelia was indeed the founder of the Jensen Group. But she was only involved for three months before handing everything over to Richard,” Gregory went on.
“Did she have any shares?” Jeffrey asked, not having paid much attention to the Jensen Group before.
“No,” Gregory replied.
Jeffrey’s expression darkened.
So, it seemed that what they heard Reba say to Richard was likely true.
Amelia probably struck some kind of deal with Richard. Amelia helped Richardunch thepany quickly, and he promised her something in return. Whether raising Reba was part of that deal was still anyone’s
guess.
“Doesn’t Amelia have a friend?” Jeffrey asked, trying to recall something from the past.
Gregory, who knew all the details, replied, “Yeah, her name is May. She went abroad soon after Amelia’s

ident and rarelyes back.”
“Get in touch with her. Set up a meeting,” Jeffrey said, thinking she might be the key to unlocking some
answers.
“Got it,” Gregory said.
Jeffrey just grunted.
When May saw Gregory’s message, she felt uneasy. After some thought, she called Reba. “So, how are things with Jeffrey?”
“We’re getting divorced soon,” Reba said. The thought of getting divorced on Thursday made her feel much lighter.
Reba thought, ‘I won’t hurt every time he’s with Andrea anymore. It’ll all be over soon. We’ll have no ties left.‘
May looked at Gregory’s email, puzzled. ‘Is Jeffrey trying to get me to stop Reba from getting a divorce?‘ she wondered.
“What’s up?” Reba asked, knowing May didn’t pry without reason.
“I’m thinking about when toe back,” May said.
She had promised to return to keep Reba from learning the truth about Richard and Amelia. But with work piling up, it was hard to leave.
“Come back?” Reba asked.
“Sure, I’ll help you find your mom’s bank card and make you super rich,” May replied with a grin.
Reba paused, speechless for a moment.
She sighed. She believed most of what May said, except the part about Amelia being worth billions. That sounded way too far–fetched.
“Alright,” May said after a long pause. “Let me know when you set your divorce date. I’ll see if I cane back and check on Amelia.”
“Okay,” Reba agreed.
After hanging up, Reba nced at the calendar.
A month had passed. There were only a few days left, and it was time to set the date for the divorce paperwork with Jeffrey. She had a job now, so she’d need to ask for time off.
Lost in thought, she texted Jeffrey: [Are you free this Thursday?]
Jeffrey saw the message as he walked through his front door. He knew what she meant, but he didn’t reply.

By evening, she still hadn’t heard back. As she thought about it, Ian’s question came to mind. ‘What if Jeffrey refuses to divorce me?‘ she thought.
The thought made her feel uneasy. After dinner with Samuel, she called Jeffrey. She was just straight to the point. “Did you see my message?”
Jeffrey was at a bar with Stanley and Riley.
He nced at his drink and answered honestly, “Yeah, I saw it.”
She almost blurted out, “If you saw it, why didn’t you reply?”
But she caught herself just in time.
He didn’t owe her a response. If she asked, he’d just turn it back on her and put her on the spot.
“Wednesday is thest day of the cooling–off period. We can get the divorce papers on Thursday,” Reba said calmly, her voice steady. “If you’re free then, I’ll ask for time off work so we can go together.”
Jeffrey’s expression darkened.
She really did want to divorce him.
Stanley and Riley both picked up on his sudden mood change. Riley shot Stanley a nosy look, silently mouthing, “Who on earth is gutsy enough to tick him off with just a couple of words?”
Stanley was kind of speechless. He thought, ‘Who else could it be but Reba?‘
He wasn’t about to say that out loud. He liked having all his teeth.
“Are you listening?” Reba asked, her voice steady.
Jeffrey pressed his lips together, feeling an odd tightness in his chest. “Yeah.”
Reba was about to scold him. ‘If he’s listening, why can’t he just answer like a normal person?‘ she thought, a bit annoyed.
“So, are you free…” Before she could finish, a sharp beep cut through the line, and the call dropped, leaving Reba staring at her phone in disbelief.
Reba was taken aback.
She frowned, tapped open the chat, and texted: [What’s wrong?
After waiting a while with no reply, she called again, only to be met with an automated voice. “The number you dialed is switched off…”
Reba could only pause, momentarily lost for words. ‘I can’t deal with this guy,‘ she thought, at her wits‘ end. At all times, he just had to turn his phone off now. Reba was speechless.
If Reba ever found out Jeffrey did it on purpose, she’d totally blow up.

“Who was calling?” Riley asked, her eyes wide after watching Jeffrey end the call and instantly shut down his phone. “Who could freak you out so much that you had to cut and run? Let me meet this legend.”
Jeffrey slipped his phone away and looked up at her. “You want to know?”
“Obviously,” Riley shot back.
Jeffrey said, “Did you finish what I asked you to do?”
“Nothing too hard,” Riley said, all cool and rxed. She grinned and joked, “I just snap my fingers and it’s all done.”
Stanley was kind of speechless, thinking, ‘Riley really isn’t worried about getting hit.‘
“Then go ahead and do it,” Jeffrey said, pletely unfazed by her nickname. “If it’s not sorted by today, I’m marking you as cking off, and your bonus gets cut in half.”
Stanley started to protest, wondering, ‘I thought we had until next Wednesday?‘
But then he realized Jeffrey would go after him, so he shut up and left Riley to deal with it.
“You rich folks are the worst,” Riley grumbled, pulling out herptop. “sh that cash at me again, and I’ll hack yourpany and reroute all your money.”
