Chapter 132

    Chapter 132

“Of course, I can. I saw everything myself!” Lisa retorted, full of confidence. Now that things had gone this far, simply watching the drama wasn’t the same anymore.

Those who had just been gossiping shifted their eyes back to theirputer screens, but whether they kept listening in was anyone’s guess.

“I even went and asked Andrea about it. She personally told me there’s something going on between you and Mr. Hanson,” Lisa said, taking Reba’s silence as a sign of fear and pushing further.

“She even said that, off the clock, you two were really close.”

“Then go on believing whatever Andrea says,” Reba replied, not bothering to defend herself. “Just don’t regret it if she tricks you one day and you lose out on your severance.” With that, Reba buried herself back in her work.

Everyone had their own theories about what was really going on, but Reba’s straightforward attitude made it pretty clear to everyone–she was definitely not some homewrecker.

As for what Lisa was spouting, nobody took her rumors seriously anymore.

But after everything Lisa said, people started looking at her differently. Everyone remembered how buddy- buddy she used to be with Reba, and now she was talking trash without a shred of evidence.

The switch–up was hard to ignore. Honestly, nobody wanted to mess with someone like that anymore.

“What are you all looking at?” Lisa barked, unable to stand the stares. “I’m not the one ying the homewrecker here.”

The group immediately shifted their eyes away, pretending to focus on their own screens.

But Lisa still couldn’t shake the feeling that everyone was sneaking nces at her when she wasn’t looking. It was suffocating. She felt like she was about to explode, but there was nowhere for her to vent.

At noon that day, Reba left the office and took the subway to the hospital.

Lisa, not far behind, followed her quietly. When she saw Reba walk into the top–tier private hospital owned by Hanson Group, it only confirmed what she already suspected.

Reba had no idea she was being followed. She chatted with Amelia just like she always did, having a rxed conversation about life.

She talked about what she’d been up totely, everything that went down yesterday, and mentioned that she’d be heading out soon for a training trip.

She knew Jeffrey had set it up for next Monday on purpose, since Samuel was off to summer camp for 18 days that weekend, and it had been on the calendar for months. But Reba wasn’t sure how she felt about this work trip.

While Reba was still lost in her own thoughts lunch break slipped away before she even noticed. She told

Amelia, “See you tomorrow,” and then walked out of the hospital like she always did.

The moment Reba stepped out of the hospital, Lisa discreetly snapped pictures with her phone before calling Andrea. “Andrea, have you got any idea why Reba keeps hanging around that private hospital owned by Hanson Group?”

“Her mom’s there,” Andrea replied, still recovering at the hospital but feeling nearly back to normal. “She had surgeryst month, and it cost a fortune–tens of thousands, easily.”

Lisa was taken aback. “She’s that loaded?”

“If she really had money, she wouldn’t be struggling to cover those monthly medical bills running five or six figures,” Andrea continued, making sure her words could be twisted. Lisa was just a pawn in her games against Reba.

Even if Jeffrey tried toe after her, he’d have nothing on her. Everything Andrea said was true.

Lisa was more than willing to believe it. “So you mean Mr. Hanson’s the one paying for it?”

“Not exactly,” Andrea said, her words intentionally vague. “Reba got the surgery money from Mr. Hanson, but only after she lost something really precious.”

“Are you saying…” Lisa’s imagination immediately jumped to the juiciest possibility.

Andrea shrugged. “Hey, I never actually said anything.”

Lisa was absolutely thrilled, practically grinning from ear to ear as she stopped the recording of the call. She tossed a few casual, fake–concerned remarks about Andrea’s recovery before cheerfully hanging up the phone.

She followed Reba back to the office, and right as Reba was about to step inside, Lisa called out, “Reba!”

Reba stopped and turned around. When she saw it was Lisa, she didn’t even bother with a response. She just kept walking.

“What’s with the rush, huh? Feeling guilty?” Lisa swaggered over, blocking Reba’s way, full of righteous bravado. “Afraid everyone’s gonna find out what you’ve really been doing?”

Reba didn’t say a word, just treated Lisa like thin air and tried to bypass her without slowing down.

But Lisa was relentless, shadowing Reba’s every move. Whichever way Reba tried to go, Lisa jumped right in her path. After several go–arounds, Reba couldn’t move even half a step forward.

Reba felt exhausted, her eyes settling on Lisa. “Don’t block my way. Move it.”

“Apologize to me,” Lisa threatened. “Or everyone at the office is gonna hear you hooked up with Mr. Hanson just for money.”

Reba paused, raising an eyebrow questioningly. She shot Lisa a look like she’d gone off the deep end. Reba didn’t even have to guess. She knew Andrea was totally pulling the strings, using Lisa as her pawn.

“Hurry up and apologize!” Lisa barked, pressing Reba for a response.

Reba whipped out her phone, started filming, and said, “Go on, repeat what you just said.

Lisa looked totally confused and instinctively recoiled from the lens. “Hey, what are you doing?”

“Weren’t you the one iming I sold myself to Jeffrey for cash?” Reba couldn’t even be bothered to get mad. People like Lisa were just too boring. “Say it again, and I’ll give you the answer you want.”

“That’s exactly what happened!” Lisa shot back proudly, clinging to Andrea’s gossip like it was gospel. “Your mom’s surgery cost a ton, and since you couldn’te up with the cash, you ended up sleeping with Mr. Hanson for the money.”

Reba just scoffed, “Funny, that’s news to me.”

“Oh, please. Cut the act,” Lisa pressed, even more annoyed. “Andrea told me herself. She isn’t the kind to make stuff up.”

“Fine,” Reba said, ending the recording and pulling out her phone to call the cops.

“Wait, what?” Lisa blurted out, pletely baffled. “Hey! What the hell are you doing?” Lisa demanded, clearly confused.

Reba kept her cool, her voice steady as she said, “Honestly, I have zero memory of what you’re talking about.”

After ending the call, she added, “I’ve cked out from drinking a few timestely. If I want to get to the bottom of the stuff you’re iming, reporting it to the police is the only way.”

Lisa stared at Reba in disbelief, blurting, “Are you out of your mind?” She couldn’t figure out where Reba suddenly got the guts to turn everything upside down.

Reba didn’t waste another second on her, just brushed past Lisa like she wasn’t even there, and went straight upstairs to the office.

Watching Reba stroll away, perfectly unbothered, Lisa suddenly began to second–guess herself. Andrea had said Reba lost something incredibly precious before Jeffrey gave her the money.

She wondered apart from her body, what else could possibly count as that valuable. Still chewing over the question, Lisa fired off a text to Andrea while heading upstairs.

Andrea’s reply came back even more mysteriously. [I really can’t tell you. Mr. Hanson made it clear I’m not allowed to talk about this with anyone.]

Lisa pushed harder. [Wait, did she sleep with him?]

Andrea didn’t reply at all. She figured that no matter what she said, it would just cause trouble, so she decided to y dumb now and think up an excuseter if Lisa kept pressing.

Back at her desk, Reba quickly filled Jane in. “Jane, the cops mighte by to talk to me today. If you can’t find me, I’m probably down at the station with them.”

“Alright, Jane replied, then asked, ‘Did Lisa stir up trouble again?

    Reba nodded. “Yeah”

Jane gave her the usual unwavering support. “Whatever you wanna do, I’m with you all the way

“Thanks, Jane.” Reba’s eyes warmed with gratitude.

About twenty minutester, three cops walked in.

Reba and Lisa were quickly ushered into an empty conference room upstairs. When the cops started asking questions, Rebaid out the whole story in the simplest way ponible.

The cop fixed his gaze on Lisa, face stern. “Did you actually witness Reba sleeping with Jeffrey for money?
