“You guys head back to Reba’s Manor and wait for me,” Jeffrey told Reba. “Once I’ve got everything sorted out, I’lle talk to you.”
“Okay,” Reba agreed without hesitation.
Jeffrey added, “I’ve already sent Victor to pick up Samuel. Don’t worry.”
“Sure,” Reba replied.
Jeffrey nodded, ruffled her hair, and then left.
Not long after he left, Gregory pulled up in a car to pick them up, greeting Reba and Jessica with his usual respectful manner. “Ms. Jensen, Ms. Scott, Mr. Hanson asked us to take you back to Reba’s Manor.”
The two of them got into the car together. They couldn’t help but rey everything that had just happened in their mind.
“If this whole mess was really set up, then I’m most likely the target…” Reba nced at Jessica, guilt flickering in her eyes as she tried to apologize.
Jessica didn’t even let her finish. She said, “So what if they’reing after you? If they know you’re my and still pull this kind of stunt, it means they think nothing of me.
“And if anyone dares disrespect me, I’ll fight them to the bitter end.”
A warm feeling blossomed in Reba’s chest, and she wanted to say something more.
“Alright, zip it already,” Jessica cut her off again.
“You two are really close,” Gregory remarked warmly from the driver’s seat.
friend
“Of course. We’ve been joined at the hip ever since we were kids,” Jessica dered without hesitation. Then, realizing Jeffrey hadn’te back with them, she asked, “By the way, where’s Mr. Hanson?”
After something like this, she thought that Jeffrey should be hereforting Reba, just like he did when their car finally stopped.
“He’s asking the truck driver a few questions,” Gregory said, sidestepping the truth. He didn’t dare tell Reba what was really going on, worried he might scare her.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey was lounging in a scarcely upied vi on the outskirts. On either side of him, two neat lines of bodyguards stood with military precision, while a middle–aged man–looking deceptively honest- faced him, sweating bullets.
Jeffrey locked eyes with the man, his aura somanding it felt like the air itself had grown heavier.
The middle–aged man was practically shaking in his boots.
“Spill it. Who put you up to this?” Jeffrey leaned back on the couch, his tonezy–yet somehow it froze the blood in the man’s veins.
“What…?” The man blinked, bewildered and nervous.
“You don’t wanna talk? Fine.” Jeffrey’s tone was chillingly casual as he shot a look at his bodyguards. “Take him down. Make sure he gets the best treatment.”
“Yes, sir!” the bodyguards replied crisply.
The man panicked, voice trembling. “Please, I really have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m just a truck driver. If I did anything to offend you, please, show some mercy!”
Jeffrey stayed silent. Though he remained silent, a sense of menace hung heavy in the air.
The truck driver was dragged off, farther and farther away, as an overwhelming fear started to spread through
his chest.
Seeing the terror on his face, two bodyguards began to discuss.
One said, “I did thest blowst time. It’s your term this time.”
The other one grumbled, “Why can’t you handle it a few more times?”
The first one retorted, “Why is it always me doing that?”
The second one snorted. “Then let’s just do it together–one blow each, we’ll take turns.”
The first one said, “Fine, you win.”
The truck driver’s blood ran cold, eyes bulging in disbelief. Panic seized himpletely.
He couldn’t believe these two were discussing breaking thew like it was no big deal. He thought, ‘Seriously? Aren’t we in aw–abiding society?‘
“Mr. Hanson!” the truck driver cried out in panic, not caring about anything else anymore, just trying desperately to appeal to his humanity.
He said, “Murder is against thew! You’ve got money and power. Why risk everything by doing something illegal?”
The two bodyguards kept dragging him away, while Jeffrey remainedpletely unmoved.
The truck driver’s heart hammered in his chest, his body going limp with terror. “Mr. Hanson!” he wailed again.
“Shut up!” the first bodyguard said with mock seriousness. “Mr. Hanson is sending you off to live a good life. Stop shouting. So noisy.”
“I confess. I admit it!” The truck driver totally cracked under the pressure. “It was Richard Jensen. He told me to trail a pink car with the te ending in 186. I seriously had no clue those were your people.

“Please don’t kill me. Whatever you want to know, I’ll spill it all!” he stammered, practically shaking out of his
skin.
The two bodyguards nced at each other and then looked over at Jeffrey. Jeffrey just gave a tiny nod. Then they hauled the guy right back and dumped him at Jeffrey’s feet.
“You know exactly who I am, so how could you not recognize who was in that car?” Jeffrey leaned forward, fingers interlocked, the watch on his wrist gleaming against his pale skin.
The truck driver’s face went ghostly pale. He thought, ‘Oh, no. I’m screwed.
“You get one chance to tell the truth,” Jeffrey said, his voice ice–cold. “If you mess it up, I’ll let those two entertain you.”
Cold terror flooded through the truck driver’s veins. He thought, ‘No… They’ll chop me into pieces!‘
“This is illegal!” he shouted, desperate to tug at any scrap of humanity Jeffrey might have left.
“You’ve got three minutes to spill it,” Jeffrey reminded him, tapping at his watch with chilling indifference.
The calmer Jeffrey remained, the more worried the truck driver became–until he finally cracked, blurting out everything. “I swear what I said is true. Richard ordered me to tail that car and deliberately smash into whoever was sitting in the passenger seat!”
Jeffrey’s gaze went cold as ice.
“So you actually went along with something illegal?” a bodyguard asked in disbelief.
The truck driver’s voice shook. “He told me he had powerful people backing him up and could get me off easy. Said it was his own daughter in the car, so he wouldn’t let anything happen to me.”
The bodyguard nced at Jeffrey instinctively. As he expected, Jeffrey was furious. His chilling aura could almost cool the ce down.
Jeffrey said, “Take him and the footage to the police, make sure he spills everything.” Jeffrey shot a look at the two bodyguards, Barry and Tommy. “These two are pretty hot–tempered. Who knows, maybe they’ll treat you to dinner when you least expect it.”
The truck driver squeaked out, “This is illegal!”
Jeffrey looked confused.
Barry blinked, genuinely baffled. “Illegal? What’s illegal?”
The truck driver’s voice trembled, “You’re dishing out vignte justice!”
Tommy looked equally confused. “When did that happen? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Mr. Hanson, I know you’ve got connections everywhere, and you’re practically powerful,” the truck driver said, forcing himself to stay calm.
to the police, I’ll tell them
Jeffrey slowly raised his eyes, his expression unreadable.
“Judging by what they just said, they’ve killed plenty of people before,” the truck driver kept pushing. “You really think the police wouldn’t dig into something like that?”
Tommy and Barry didn’t know what he was talking about?”
Tommy asked, “Wait, when did we ever kill anyone?”
Barry said, “Wait, does he think we were talking about killing him?”
Tommy shook his head. “Does he have some sort of persecutionplex?”
Barry shrugged. “Maybe.”
The truck driver just blinked in utter confusion.
His nerves were shot. He said, “Don’t tell me you weren’t just nning to kill me! Admit it–if I hadn’t confessed, you really would’ve gone for it, right?”
“We were literally just talking about getting him to help me out with the discounts of online shopping,” Barry said, keeping a perfectly straight face. “The app says I only need three more people for the deal to go through.”
Tommy shook his head. “Honestly, I think that’s a trap.”
Barry sighed. “Totally agree.”
The truck driver just stared at them, speechless.
Jeffrey, too, was at a loss for words.
