Titan 49

She was dazed for a few seconds, then pushed him away.

He didn’t insist and quietly followed behind her.

Ynda got in the car, just about to drive to the studio when Megan had already ordered takeout there. The studio was newly renovated, and a few of them could gather in the office.

But Charles’s call came through at that moment.

    “Honey, where are you?”

His tone was calm, probably because he had a little to drink.

She instinctively clenched her chest. It had been a week since the kidney issue, but every time Charles called, she wondered if she had slipped up somewhere.

As it turned out, Charles could be quite arrogant at times.

At least when it came to his perception of her, he was always pretty full of himself, thinking she wouldn’t dare do anything reckless.

“I’ming home right now. What’s going on?”

Wasn’t Sophie looking for him? Had she not found him?

Just as he was thinking this, he heard Sophie’s voice, and the call quickly ended.

Charles looked at the identally dropped call, then turned to see Sophie with red eyes, nervously staring at him.

    “Charles, I didn’t mean to.”

He raised his hand to rub his brow. Alex Wilson’s condition had stabilized. He met with partners tonight and couldn’t help but have a couple more drinks.

Sophie slowly approached, linking her arm with his. “I really know I was wrong. Please don’t ignore me.”

Sophie had been with him for over two years. To be honest, he was a bit tired of her.

Especially this time aftering back from abroad, it felt even more meaningless.

He pinched his phone between his fingers, intending to settle things with some money, but then saw her eyes sparkling like a rabbit’s, staring at him.

“Charles, tonight I wore that purple outfit you liked before.”

Charles slightly raised his eyebrow and used his fingers to pull open the cor in front of her.

Her hand grabbed his wrist, almost pleading, “I’ll be very obedient from now on.”

He remembered many years ago when a group of boys wanted to prank Ynda.

    he didn’t stop them.

As the leader of the group, he didn’t

    “But she looks so old–fashioned.”

“You don’t get it. The elders love this kind of old–fashioned girl.”

Thest sentence was said by Charles. He looked toward Ynda, standing perfectly straight while reciting poetry, and a slight smile curved his lips.

    “Old–fashioned girls can be pretty.”

Someone nearby teased, “Then maybe she should be Charles’s wife.”

Charles frowned, stretching out his long legs, “I don’t like that kind of old–fashioned girl.”

Several boys, usually little rascals, exchanged nces and quietly moved toward Ynda.

By the time Charles heard the ssh, it was already toote.

Ynda didn’t know how to swim back then and was so scared she cried nonstop.

He stood on the shore, thought for a moment, and still reached out his hand.

The little strict one stretched out her finger and grabbed his wrist tightly, her eyes pleading, “Charles, pull me up.”

When she looked at someone with those eyes, probably no one could say no.

But he didn’t pull her up immediately. Instead, he stood on the shore and lowered his arm into the water, saying, “Too heavy, can’t pull you up.”

She clung to his wrist even tighter, crying with tears streaming down like raindrops on plum blossoms.

Not sure if it was tears or water, but his wrist stung ufortably.

He finally pulled her up and tossed her aside.

She just kept sitting there sobbing. At that time, she had just been brought back to the Grant residence not long ago. Malnourished, she looked much smaller than kids her age.

When she cried with a hunched back, the thin fabric still showed the clear outline of her bones.
