After Ynda got into the car with Charles, she leaned against his chest the whole time.

Her eyes were closed, and she looked terrified, faintly exposing the vulnerable back of her neck.

This gesture made Charles feel like he was inplete control.

His fingertips pinched the back of her neck gently, casually reassuring her, “It’s okay now.”

Ynda didn’t respond, but her mind was racing fast.

First was ra Aster, then Greg–both attacks came out of nowhere; someone must be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

And the only person she’s gotten on the wrong side oftely is Vivian.

She lowered hershes. Vivian is still in the hospital, yet she’s already striking like this–imagine what she might do once she’s out.

But the Andrade manor is huge; taking down someone like Vivian won’t be easy at all.

She immediately thought of Vivian’s uncle, Grady; if there was a way in through Vivian’s side, maybe she could try it with that man.

But she had to act carefully.

When the car reached Moonbay Estate, Charles tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear with his fingertips.

Just as she was about to open her eyes and get off, he suddenly scooped her up sideways and carried her down.

She simply kept her eyes closed, but when she leaned against the bed, she realized it was Charles’s room.

Since they started sleeping separately, she hadn’t been in this room again.

Charles’s fingertips grabbed her chin, pressing her down on the bed as he lowered his head to kiss her.

He seemed in a good mood tonight; even with her eyes closed, his fingertips moved to the buttons on his

    shirt.

Ynda snapped her eyes open sharply. “No!”

Her face was pale, and instinctively, she pped out.

The pnded sharply on Charles’s face, making a crisp sound.

    She frozepletely, lowering her eyshes.

    “Honey, I’m sorry.”

No one had ever dared to p Charles like that before, especially not at such a moment.

His expression darkened. Though he didn’t get angry, his interest faded.

He had finally gotten a little interested in her. Now he stood up. “Take a shower and rest well.”

After saying that, he turned and went to his study to work overtime.

Ynda rxed only after he left.

She didn’t stay in that room but headed to her own room at the end of the hallway.

After showering and lying on the bed, her mind remained clear and alert.

She took out her phone and called Megan. Greg ising over tonight. Does Megan know?

But before the call went through, Megan’s call came in first.

“Ynda, I’ve heard everything. He just lost his head for a moment. Can you… just drop it? From now on, I don’t need you to pay me; I’ll work for free. I really… can’t live without him. I’m begging you.”

Ynda thought she must have heard wrong. To her, Megan had always been a very decisive woman. How could she turn out like this?

Megan didn’t hear her reply, and her eyes instantly turned red.

    “I’m pregnant.”

Those four words hit Ynda like a thunderp.

Megan’s health hadn’t been good. She couldn’t get pregnant for years, and the doctor said she would never have children.

“Ynda, I’m pregnant. The child would lose its father if born now. I know Greg’s mistake this time is huge. I’ll make him understand, I…”

Her voice trembled as she spoke and then broke into tears.

Ynda felt uneasy listening to this. She considered Megan a friend, but she knew Megan couldn’t keep going like this.

She took a deep breath. “Megan, you can leave Greg and raise the child on your own. What kind of father is he to your child? You’re trying to convince me with the child, but in the end, you just don’t want to leave Greg.”

Megan didn’t respond and wiped her tears.

Ynda couldn’t sleep now. She got up and asked, “Where are you? Not at home?”

Megan’s lips trembled, and she spoke haltingly, “At the police station. He was kneeling and apologizing, saying he won’t do it again.”

A man who kneels like that at every turn is the most terrifying–like a ghost collecting debts.

    But Megan was soft–hearted.

If she didn’t love Greg, she wouldn’t have hope for him even after enduring such severe domestic abuse.

“Ynda, you don’t know, he used to be good. He always protected me. He only fell so low because life didn’t go his way.”

Ynda had heard this before, but it was all self–delusion.

She didn’t say anything, and Megan just cried over there.

Megan knew her demands were excessive. If no one had stopped it tonight, Ynda might have really been assaulted.

But she couldn’t let go of Greg, the man who had protected her since they were kids.

She hung up the phone and covered her mouth, crying.

When she returned to the police station lobby, Greg was still kneeling right in front of her.

“Wife, I was just being pushed into it. Please plead with Ynda again for me. I promise I won’t do this again.

I beg you. Look at how badly I was beaten–almost lost my life. She’s fine. Why can’t you forgive me?”

Greg was already sober now and knew he was done when he saw the police.

He clung to Megan’s legs, eyes full of fear. “Wife, I love you more than anything. For all the years we’ve known each other, please help me one more time.”

Megan pped him, but Greg didn’t feel the pain and kept holding her legs, begging.

Megan cried even harder. What a torment–how did things end up like this?

When she was bullied as a child, Greg was always the first to step up and fight for her.

When she was bullied in middle school, Greg was the one who would carry the food and sit beside her, even beating up the guy who bullied her.

In high school and college, throughout all her insecure years, he was always there.

He should have been someone who shined brightly.

So who is this man now, kneeling on the ground, crying his eyes out with snot and tears?

The boy who once always wore a bright smile has unknowingly fallen apart.

And she’s still stuck in the past, holding on to this pile of rotten flesh, unwilling to let go.
