What if, by ident, he tossed the cheque into the washing machine along with hisundry?
The mere thought sent shockwaves through them.
Keh’s face contorted slightly in anger. He couldn’t fathom how this so-called “piece of trash” could possibly be worth so much. Wasn’t he simply the useless son-inw of the Wilson family?
Charlie turned to the host and asked, “Since no one can outbid me and I can afford to pay one hundred million dors for it, the magnificent purple ginseng should now be mine, correct?”
The host snapped back to reality and began, “I am now going to announce that this three-hundred-year-old purple ginseng belongs to…”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Before he could finish, Keh interjected, “Wait! I’m raising my bid!”
The crowd gasped in disbelief once more.
The auction had started at five million dors, and the bid had soared to one hundred million. Was he truly willing to keep pushing the price higher?
This purple ginseng wasn’t even worth that much! Were these two out of their minds?
Jeffrey quickly cautioned him, “Chairman Wilson! Spending one hundred million dors on that purple ginseng is a sheer waste! You could do so much more with that money! Why throw it away like that?”
In response, Keh pressed, “If I can’t get the purple ginseng, what about your new medicine? How will I cure my illness?”
Amid their conversation, a slightly balding middle-aged man hurried over, addressing Jeffrey, “I apologize for my dy, Mr. Weaver. I was waiting for theb results!”
This individual was Professor Cruz, the chief pharmacist at Weaver Pharmaceutical. He had just rushed over from the factory after assessing the benefits and applications of the purple ginseng on Jeffrey’s behalf.
Jeffrey, relieved, asked, “Professor Cruz, I’m d you’re here. Do you think this piece of purple ginseng on stage is worth one hundred million dors?”
“One hundred million?!” Professor Cruz chuckled, shaking his head. “That’s absurd! A three-hundred-year-old purple ginseng is only worth about thirty million at most. Anyone paying more would simply be a fool!”
“Then what about Chairman Wilson’s illness?” Jeffrey inquired, eager for an answer.
Professor Cruz, exuding confidence, replied, “Actually, we don’t need a three-hundred-year-old purple ginseng for the medication. A few one-hundred-year-old purple ginseng will suffice, and they can be purified for our needs. The market price for a one-hundred-year-old purple ginseng is only around one million dors. So, five of them would cost just five million dors. The cost-effectiveness of using five one-hundred-year-old ginseng far surpasses that of the three-hundred-year-old variety.”
As their discussion continued, the host prompted, “Chairman Wilson, will you raise your bid or not? Please state the exact amount, as it’s difficult to proceed otherwise.”
After hearing Professor Cruz’s insights, Keh felt empowered to not let himself be exploited. He decided to let Charlie waste his money instead.
Keh shook his head decisively and dered, “I’ve chosen not to bid anymore. It’s utterly foolish to squander one hundred million dors on a piece of purple ginseng! Only someoneckingmon sense would do that!”
The audience erupted in boos.
If someone didn’t have the money, they should just admit it. If they were hesitant to spend, they should own up to that as well. Why call someone else foolish just for their willingness to spend? Why was he acting like such a sore loser?
Keh felt a surge of irritation as the crowd jeered at him, but he couldn’t bring himself to respond. He had to swallow his pride and endure the humiliation in silence.
After all, no one would turn down a significant amount of money. He didn’t believe it was worth sacrificing his dignity just to save face.
The host swiftly dered, “One hundred million dors once.”<fn3579> Readplete version only at FindN0vel</fn3579>
“One hundred million dors twice.”
“One hundred million dors three times. Sold! Congrattions, Mr. Wade!”
Charlie nodded in satisfaction and turned to Keh, saying, “Just a friendly reminder: you will never cure your illness or regain your manhood with any medicine. So, I suggest you save your efforts!”
