    Turning to the rest of the inmates, she added, “You two, support the olddy and make sure she doesn’t tire out.”

    Despite the pain from the recent beatings and her weakened state from not eating for two days, ine stood at the front of the line. Gritting her teeth, she pushed herself to run as themand rang out, followed closely by the rest.


    Her movements were sluggish and unsteady, as if she might copse at any moment. Her legs felt like jelly the moment she began to run, nearly causing her to fall.

    As she ran, she noticed three intimidating women standing at the edge of the yard, their eyes fixed on her as if they could see right through her.


    As she passed them, one of the women reached out and grabbed her shoulder, stopping her in her tracks.


    The entire group halted as ine was caught. Gena stepped forward, demanding, “Hey, what’s going on here?”


    The three women red at them with piercing eyes. The one who had grabbed ine bore a terrifying scar that ran from the corner of her left eye down to her right chin, splitting her face in a haunting way.


    Though Gena was the leader in her cell, she was just an ordinary peasant woman. She might have been able to intimidate ine, but facing someone with a knife was a different matter. Upon seeing the scarred woman, Gena realized that they were not to be trifled with and wisely decided to keep her distance.


    The scar-faced woman asked, “I’m looking for someone named ine Parker. Is she in your cell? Which one is she?”
