Upon hearing the news, Charlie turned to ire with curiosity, asking, “Wait, she’s getting married today and only just told you about it?”
“Yes…” ire confirmed. “She needs my help to manage everything. If I don’t step in, she won’t be able to handle it all by herself. I had initially nned to suggest she reach out to some old ssmates for support, not just to lend a hand, but to lift her spirits too. But she’s not keen on that idea.”
Charlie responded with a hint of resignation, “I suppose she doesn’t want to lose face in front of too many old friends. That’s understandable.”
ire nodded in agreement and added, “I’ve never seen her look so helpless. It’s supposed to be her big day, yet both her family and her inws are causing her stress…”
With a sigh, she continued, “Charlie, I truly feel fortunate to be married to you. If I had been pressured by my family to marry someone from a wealthy background, who knows if I would have faced the same kind of mistreatment from my inws?”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Charlie’s expression turned slightly awkward. He realized that his wife was unaware of the truth—that the “pathetic husband” she married was actually the heir of the richest and most influential family in the country.
Noticing the unusual look on his face, ire assumed he was upset and quickly rified, “Charlie, please don’t misunderstand me. I mean no offense. I just want you to know how lucky I feel to have you!”<fnfa02> Readplete version only at </fnfa02>
Charlie smiled and nodded in response. He then yfully asked, “What would you do if you found out someday that I’m actually a wealthy heir?”
ireughed and replied, “That’s impossible since you’re an orphan. You can’t be the young master of a rich family!”
Charlie countered, “I’m just using it as a hypothetical. What if it were true?”
With a grin, ire said, “If you were genuinely a rich heir, I’d divorce you!”
Surprised, Charlie asked, “Really?”
ire giggled and exined, “I’m just teasing! Now let’s hurry. This is the building. Let’s head upstairs!”
Charlie shook his head in amusement as he followed her up the old staircase.
What caught him off guard was that today was indeed the day of his wife’s ssmate’s wedding. Yet, when they reached the front door of the building, there were no signs of celebration or well-wishes. It felt as if the family hadn’t prepared at all for their daughter’s wedding.
As they climbed the stairs together, they soon reached the third floor, where they heard loud cursing and shouting outside.
“You’re such a waste! Are you really going to marry into that family without taking a single cent from them? If you go through with this, I’ll be the one who faces shame and ridicule!”
The voice belonged to a middle-aged woman whose sharp, caustic tone reminded Charlie of ine.
