“What?!”
Skye and her mother felt as if they might faint upon hearing his shocking announcement.
His wife erupted in anger, “Grant! Are you out of your mind?! Didn’t you promise to marry Skye off to Steve from the Carson family? Why on earth are you now suggesting she marry Steve’s father, David? David is nearly your age! How could you even consider allowing our daughter to marry him?”
Skye joined in the outrage, eximing, “Exactly, Dad! Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I have to marry a gross old man, right?!”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Grant was overwhelmed with embarrassment as he faced his wife and daughter. He began to p himself in frustration, crying out, “It’s all my fault! I messed up! I was confused and ended up antagonizing people I shouldn’t have. Now, Don Albert and Chairman Cameron are on their way here, and they’ve given me only one option: Skye must marry Steve’s father. If not, our family will face ruin…”
“What?!” Grant’s wife felt the world spinning around her. “You offended Don Albert and Chairman Cameron? Are you insane?!”
Grant responded nervously, “I truly didn’t foresee things escting like this…”
His wife, filled with dread, demanded, “What in the world is happening?”
With tears streaming down his face, Grant recounted the entire situation in detail.
Upon hearing her father’s ount, Skye copsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrobly.
“I refuse! I won’t marry that horrible old man! I’d rather die than go through with it!”
Seeing his daughter on the ground, Grant rushed over, “Oh, my daughter! You must be careful not to harm my grandson! Even if he’s a child conceived with someone else, he’s still my grandson. He doesn’t have a father, so he can carry on the Ward family name. We will treat him as our own!”
Grant’s wife, exasperated, retorted, “How can you be thinking about your grandson right now?! We need to find a way out of this! You can’t let your own daughter marry that awful man!”
Grant sighed deeply, “Honestly, there’s little I can do at this point. If our daughter refuses to marry, it will spell disaster for our family. Do you really believe we cane up with a different solution?”
Despair washed over Grant’s wife as she cried, “Oh my God! What sins have wemitted?”
Grant urged, “Stop dwelling on that for now and get the marriage certificate quickly! Master Wade is still waiting for your wedding banquet. If we keep dying, Don Albert and Chairman Cameron will certainly retaliate against me, and our family will be finished!”
Skye wailed, “Dad! You can’t force me into a living nightmare! You can’t expect me to marry that nasty old man! I’m only twenty-six!”
Grant responded, “If you refuse to marry him, those powerful figures will definitely retaliate. At that point, we might lose everything. Our family could end up with nothing, and you won’t even have the means to give birth to your child. You’ve always lived a life of luxury, insisting on the best food and products. Soon, we might not even be able to afford in rice!”
“What?!” Skye gasped in despair.
Having been spoiled for years, she couldn’t imagine living without her extravagant lifestyle.
Grant’s wife felt equally hopeless upon hearing this.
She too couldn’t fathom abandoning their affluent lifestyle for a life of poverty; it felt like a death sentence.
Wrapping her arms around Skye, she choked out, “Skye, Don Albert and Chairman Cameron are not people we can afford to offend. For the sake of our family, you have to agree to marry David.”
Then, lowering her voice, she added, “Besides, you won’t be able to hide your pregnancy for much longer. You only have a month or two before your belly starts showing. If you can’t find someone else to marry you within that time, it’ll be toote!”<fn1a07> Read full story at find?novel</fn1a07>
“Exactly!” Grant quickly chimed in, “Marrying David is just a temporary measure to buy us some time. Once the attention shifts away from us, you can always divorce himter.”
Hearing this, Skye ground her teeth in frustration but finally relented, “Fine! I’ll get the marriage certificate with him first…”
