After picking up the hanging coat, Doris Young turned to Sydney and said, “Mom, if everything is alright, I’ll head out first.”
Sydney nodded in response, saying, “Drive safely on the road.”
“Thanks, Mom. I will,” Doris replied.
With a final farewell to her mother, Doris Young exited the ward. Noticing she had some time to spare, she decided to visit Dr. Kelso’s office in the Department of Nephrology.
Only ten hours remained before Walter’s deadline loomed over her. The faint glimmer of hope for Doris Young rested on Dr. Kelso. She wasn’t sure if he could help initiate the search for the right kidney donor in this critical time.<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Arriving at the office door, Doris knocked and heard Dr. Kelso call from inside, “Pleasee in.” She pushed the door open and entered.
As she stepped in, she expressed her regret: “Dr. Kelso, I’m really sorry to interrupt you again.”
Dr. Kelso quickly replied, “No need to be so formal, Ms. Young. Please have a seat.”
“I won’t sit, Dr. Kelso. I just had a quick question: is there any chance of finding a kidney donor?” Doris asked, her voice filled with urgency.
Dr. Kelso sighed, saying, “I’ve already reached out to many of my colleagues. Most of my old ssmates are directors in nephrology departments at top hospitals across the country. They’ve all agreed to help, but I can’t guarantee anything. It ultimatelyes down to luck.”
Doris nodded slightly, then lowered her voice and added earnestly, “Dr. Kelso, if you or your ssmates can assist in finding a kidney donor, I’d like to offer three million as a thank you. If you find the donor yourself, I will give you the entire three million; if your ssmates help, I’ll give you three million along with an additional two million for your efforts. Please take this into consideration.”
Dr. Kelso, taken aback, quickly responded, “Ms. Young, while I acknowledge that some doctors may ept such gifts from families, I’ve never engaged in this practice throughout my career. Rest assured, I will do my utmost to help with your father’s situation. As for any rewards, there’s no need to discuss that.”
Doris realized herments had inadvertently crossed a line regarding Dr. Kelso’s medical ethics. She immediately apologized, saying, “Dr. Kelso, I’m truly sorry. I was too anxious and made a poor judgment. Please forgive me.”
Dr. Kelso nodded understandingly, saying, “Ms. Young, Ipletely understand your feelings. In our field, it’smon for families to offer gifts before surgeries. If we refuse, it may seem to them as though we’re not fullymitted to caring for their loved ones.” He continued, “In such cases, we usually ept gifts discreetly before the procedure, and then the funds are handled by the hospital’s finance department, ensuring the family feels at ease during the surgery.”
Doris felt embarrassed and said, “Dr. Kelso, I really am sorry for my abruptness.”
Dr. Kelso smiled and waved off her concern, “It’s alright, I won’t hold it against you. As for the kidney donor, you can count on me to give it my all.”
“Thank you,” Doris replied, nodding. “I won’t take up any more of your time. Please feel free to contact me with any updates.”
Dr. Kelso agreed, saying, “Absolutely. I’ll keep you informed.”<fnf5e9> Discover more novels at find{n}ovel</fnf5e9>
Just then, someone burst through the door, panic evident on their face, eximing, “Dr. Kelso, urgent news! We finally have a clear result from the patient’s examination in Ward No. 1!”
