Just after Mia wrapped up her speech, several street vendors nearby recognized her and respectfully called out, “Miss Mia!”
Mia greeted each vendor personally, even remembering everyone’s name.
Once the entertainment concluded, she turned to Charlie and said, “The economy of Hong Kong Ind has experienced rapid growth in recent years. This area has already been purchased and is set for redevelopment. The owner of the street wanted to evict these vendors when their leases expired, and the rent skyrocketed overnight. Many of the vendors couldn’t afford the new rates and began to leave. So, I went to my dad and insisted he buy this ce for me. I told him that if he agreed to purchase it and hand it over to me, I would allow him to marry that woman he’s been seeing.”
With a smile, Mia spread her hands and added, “And just like that, I got my wish and became the owner of this street! Every stall and shop here, on both sides, belongs to me! Isn’t that incredible?”
“Incredible,” Charlie replied, grinning. “So, after you acquired this street, you invited the vendors back, right?”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
“Exactly,” Mia nodded. “I personally invited each vendor back and promised them that as long as they were willing to set up their stalls here, I’d never raise the rent. Furthermore, I cover all maintenance costs, utilities, and cleaning services. Given the steep rise in expensestely, their annual rent barely covers maintenance costs, and my dad’spany has to subsidize some of it each year.”
Charlie chuckled, “It sounds like your dad treats you well.”
Mia agreed, “He’s always been kind to me, especially since he’s been trying to make amends for the years of hurt.”
However, as she spoke, her expression turned serious. “But my mother suffered greatly before she passed away. I can vividly recall all the moments from her illness to her death, and I will never forgive him for that.”
Noticing the redness in Mia’s eyes, which suggested painful memories were surfacing, Charlie asked, “By the way, Miss Mia, Uncle mentioned you’ve never brought a boy here before. Why did you choose to bring me today? Are you nning to invite me for dinner next time?”
Mia pouted, “Don’t get sentimental; I didn’t intend to bring you here!”<fna4ce> Follow current nov?ls on f?ndnovel</fna4ce>
Charlie quickly responded, “But didn’t you say at the dinner table that you wanted to take me to enjoy some snacks from Hong Kong Ind this evening?”
Mia retorted, “Yes, I said that, but I didn’t mean to bring you here. I only mentioned it to deter you froming along. I didn’t expect you to be so bold and actually agree!”
She continued, “Besides, there are countless snack streets on Hong Kong Ind. Now that you’ve agreed, I can easily find another one to ditch you!”
Charlie, puzzled, asked, “Then why are we here now?”
Mia was momentarily speechless, her fairplexion flushing with either nervousness or embarrassment. She quickly insisted, “I brought you here because I was concerned the Zhong family mighte looking for revenge. If they do show up, I have enough connections here to provide you with some cover.”
Charlie smirked, “I don’t believe that. Do you think I still need a mask?”
Mia rolled her eyes yfully, “You’re so full of yourself! Aren’t you going to Lan Kwai Fong tonight? I can’t wait to see how you handle it!”
Charlie asked with a smile, “Do you really want to see it?”
Mia replied, a bit exasperated, “Yes! I truly want to see it! I’m worried you won’t be able to handle it, and I might have to find someone to help you!”
With a snap of his fingers and raised eyebrows, Charlie dered, “Since you want to see it, I’ll make sure to give you a show!”<h3 ss="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading" id="chapter-list"><strong></strong>
