As soon as ire heard from ine that Charlie had been released from prison, she let out a sigh of relief and asked eagerly, “Mom, where are you right now? Has Charlie been in touch with you?”


    ine quickly responded, “Charlie is right here with me! He was the one who helped me find a way to get released.”


    ire’s excitement was palpable as she urged, “Mom, pleasee back with Charlie! You have no idea how worried I’ve been all this time!”


    With a hint of embarrassment, ine replied, “Well, ire, I don’t really want to go back to Providence. It’s so dull there. I’d rather stay in New York for a few days. I met a friend in prison who also got out the same day as I did, and she invited me to visit.”


    ire, almost without thinking, protested, “Mom, you can’t trust anyone outside! Haven’t you learned from your past? Those people don’t genuinely want to be your friends; they have their own agendas!”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">


    ine reassured her, “Oh, it’s different this time. The friend I made in prison is a real person, just like me. She was framed by gangsters, just as I was.” ine then began to share her friend’s story, saying, “You won’t believe how she ended up in prison! She was selling hairy crabs to our fellow Chinese in the U.S., and one foolish buyer didn’t like it, leading to her imprisonment and a hefty fine! Can you imagine such a terrible thing happening?”


    ire was confused but still concerned. “Mom, I’m just notfortable with you being alone in New York. You should really listen to me ande back to Providence with Charlie!”


    ine insisted, “Oh, ire! You have to trust me this time. I can read people well now. I wouldn’t deceive you, not after everything.”


    Fearing ire’s disapproval, ine added, “I’ve already promised my friend I’d spend some time in New York!”


    Feeling helpless, ire sighed and said, “Alright, then let me talk to Charlie!”


    “Sure!” ine quickly handed the phone to Charlie and gave him a knowing look.


    Charlie took the call and greeted her, “Hey there, wife.”


    ire inquired, “Husband, have you met the friend Mom mentioned? Is she trustworthy?”


    In an effort to support ine, Charlie replied casually, “Yes, I’ve met her, and she seems reliable. I even asked some clients to help out in New York. Your mom will be fine, so don’t worry.”


    ire felt a wave of relief wash over her. After a moment, she said resignedly, “Alright, I know my mom—once she makes up her mind, there’s no changing it. If you think she’s safe, I won’t argue…”


    Then, she added, “Husband, I really appreciate everything you’re doing to help my mom!”


    Charlie smiled warmly and replied, “Wife, there’s no need for such formality. Your mother is my mother-inw; it’s my responsibility.”<fn1696> ?????? ???? FιndＮovel</fn1696>


    ire softly asked, “Husband, when are youing back?”


    Charlie thought it was time to return to ire, as his business in New York wasplete. He said, “I’ll head backter; it should take me just a few hours to drive.”


    ire reminded him, “Oh, and don’t forget to thank your clients! They’ve been concerned about everything. Why not invite them for dinner tonight? If you have time, you could eat and then drive back. It’s important to show our gratitude.”


    Although Charlie hadn’t intended to take them out, he decided to first meet with Don Albert and Isaac Cameron, making arrangements for them to stay at the Shangri-La in New York for now.


    “Alright, dear wife, I’ll make the arrangements and return as soon as possible,” he said.


    After hanging up, Charlie told ine, “Mom, take some time to rx here. I’m going to meet with a client and then I’ll head back to ire.”


    “Go ahead! Don’t worry about me,” ine smiled. “I’ll be just fine here, you and ire can rx!”
