Charlie nodded and extended his hand, giving a light pat on the shoulder. As a trace of aura flowed into the other’s mind, Charlie spoke calmly, “Very good. From now on, you will follow my instructions, understood?” The individual’s eyes widened in surprise, and without hesitation, he replied, “I understand!”
The onlookers remained puzzled, questioning why the special envoy would address Jiedushi in such a manner. In the Qing Dynasty, the British Lord held supreme authority, and disobedience was unthinkable. Yet, the envoy’s words seemed to indicate an intention to nurture confidants within the organization.
Noticing the hesitation among the crowd, Charlie smirked and asked, “What’s wrong? Don’t you want to pledge your loyalty to me like he did?”
A middle-aged man quickly responded, “I only follow the hero’s lead!”
Charlie smiled and nodded, replying, “Loyalty is trulymendable! Knowing that you are devoted to the British Lord brings mefort.”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
His remarks eased some tension among the group, leading them to believe that Charlie was merely gauging their loyalty to the hero and the organization.
At that moment, Charlie stepped forward, shook hands with each person, and after instilling spiritual energy in their minds, he cleared his throat and dered, “From now on, your sole mission is to be loyal to me, understood?”
“Understood!” At this point, Charlie had sessfully imnted his psychological suggestion, and one by one, they responded respectfully.
With control over the group established, Charlie began to formte his n.
From his insights into the Poqing Society, he understood that the dead soldiers and their families were filled with animosity toward the organization. Therefore, as long as he could detoxify the poison in their systems, he would be able to sway them to his cause.
However, he knew the Xiaoqiwei group required caution. Although they were initially dead men, some had gained rtive freedom and climbed the ranks within Poqing, likely leading some to shift their allegiance toward the organization.
To address this, Charlie devised a strategy to root out dissenters.
He nned to summon the leaders of Xiaoqiwei to his location and administer the antidote to them. After taking the medication, they would have the opportunity to meet directly with their “special envoy.”
The antidote Charlie provided would instantly neutralize the poison in their bodies. If anyone attempted to keep secrets and left quietly after taking the medicine, it would indicate their disloyalty. Conversely, anyone who informed him right after taking the antidote would have fullymitted their loyalty to the Poqing Society.
Using this method, while he couldn’t definitively ascertain the loyalties of those who remained silent, he could at least identify the traitors within Xiaoqiwei.
Thus, he inquired of the Jiedu envoy, “How many leaders are there at all levels in the Xiaoqiwei?”
The Jiedushi promptly replied, “The Xiaoqiwei consists of onemander, three bannermanders, nine battalionmanders, and twenty-seven captains.”
He added, “However, we recently lost onemander, one battalionmander, and two captains during thest mission.”
Charlie nodded and instructed, “Divide the remaining leaders into three groups. Bring the first group here, prepare a room for them next door, and have them take the medicine there.”
The Jiedushi promptly responded, “I will make the arrangements!”
Charlie affirmed, “Once you bring them,e find me.”
“Understood!”
After a few minutes of waiting, the Jiedu Envoy returned hurriedly, addressing Charlie respectfully, “Master Special Envoy, the first group of twelve individuals has arrived. Please proceed to the conference room!”
Charlie nodded, donned in a ck robe, and followed the Jiedu Envoy to the spacious conference room next door.
Upon entering the room, Charlie found twelve middle-aged men visibly anxious and restless. These individuals were all leaders within Xiaoqiwei.
As Charlie stepped inside, the tension in the room escted. He approached the head of the conference table and addressed the twelve warriors, “Thank you for your dedication. Today, I have brought a new antidote for all of you. I summoned you here to invite you to be the first to try this new medicine.”<fn12bb> This text is hosted at fin?novel</fn12bb>
Upon hearing the mention of a new antidote, the leaders’ expressions turned to fear and surprise. They had never heard of the organization offering a new remedy before.
Charlie continued, “Due to recent developments, I believe you are aware that Xiaoqiwei will encounter more challenging tasks ahead. The effectiveness of your previous medicine for seven days is clearly insufficient, so the hero has prepared a new antidote that extends its effectiveness to fifteen days.”
Relieved by this exnation, the twelve men had many of their doubts assuaged.
Charlie then revealed the antidote he had prepared, stating, “This time, everyone will take the medicine here. Afterward, I will meet with each of you individually next door. I will need you to share your honest feelings about the medicine with me, as I will record your responses to present to the Lord of Ennd upon my return!”<h3 ss="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading" id="chapter-list"><strong></strong><h3 ss="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading" id="chapter-list"><strong>Next Chapter</strong>
