The old man inquired with genuine curiosity, “Is there anything else you’re struggling to understand? Now that we’ve uncovered his identity from when he was a child, would you like to recalcte using his birth date?”
Lin Wan’er shook her head and replied, “I can’t find any leads on him even with the Near God Hexagram, let alone his birth horoscope.”
The old man sighed and said, “Then, as you suggested, we should head to Aurous Hill and give it a try!” After a moment, he added, “Miss, would it be alright if I apanied you to Aurous Hill?”
Lin Wan’er regarded him silently before responding, “Your qi and blood seem weak, and you don’t appear to be in good health.”
“Indeed,” the old man admitted with a wry smile. “I’m eighty-eight this year and suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary heart disease. I’ve had a myocardial infarction, undergone stent cements and bypass surgery, and even battled lung cancer a few years back, resulting in the removal of my left lung and chemotherapy. My health is certainly not great. The doctor informed me recently that my kidneys are failing, and I’ll need to start hemodialysis soon. Given my condition, I can’t handle anyplications, and I’d be content if I could live another two years.”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Lin Wan’er frowned and asked, “Is a kidney transnt not an option?”
The old man smiled gently, “Look at my condition; could I endure such a significant operation? I suspect I’d pass away before the new lungs could even be imnted on the operating table.”
“I see,” Lin Wan’er acknowledged softly. “Let me check your pulse.”
The old man was taken aback and quickly replied, “Miss, I’m afraid I can’t trouble you with that… How could I ask you to take my pulse?”
Lin Wan’er waved her hand dismissively, “It’s no trouble at all.”
She indicated the armrest of the chair and instructed, “ce your hands here.”
“Thank you, Miss!” The old man hurriedly ced his left hand on the armrest while Lin Wan’er lightly touched his wrist. She closed her eyes for a moment to assess his pulse before withdrawing her hand and sighing. “I’m sorry, though I have some knowledge of Chinese medicine, I don’t think I can make any significant changes in your case.”
Startled, the old man smiled and replied, “Miss, there’s no need to feel guilty. I’m already grateful to have lived this long.”
After a brief silence, Lin Wan’er said, “Let me provide you with a fortune; my skills in fortune-telling are much stronger than my knowledge of medicine.”
Without waiting for a response, she pulled out nine copper coins from her pocket.<fnd4e1> Updates are released by Find[?]ovel</fnd4e1>
She arranged the coins on the coffee table, creating three rows and tossing three coins at once onto the table.
Examining the resulting hexagram, she frowned and remarked, “The hexagram indicates that your life expectancy is diminishing. You may have at most six months left.”
“Six months?” the old man gasped in disbelief.
Regaining hisposure, he smiled wryly, “While it’s shorter than I hoped, six months is sufficient for me to finalize arrangements and n my funeral…”
Lin Wan’er then picked up the three coins from the lower left and tossed them onto the coffee table again.
This time, her eyebrows lifted slightly as she said, “However, the current hexagram reveals a chance for survival. If you can seize this opportunity, you could extend your life.”
“Long life?!” The old man stared wide-eyed. “Is it really possible? That would mean living for at least another twelve years…”
Lin Wan’er replied earnestly, “The hexagrams do not lie. Your longevity hinges on two possibilities: either within six months; or, reaching the age of one hundred.”
The old man, surprised, asked, “Miss… then how can I grasp this chance?”
Lin Wan’er gathered thest three coins and tossed them onto the coffee table, then scrutinized the nine coinsid out before her, deep in thought.
Noticing her serious demeanor, the old man refrained from speaking, waiting anxiously for her to say something.
After a moment, Lin Wan’er remarked thoughtfully, “It’s odd; the hexagram indicates that your vitality is linked to me, yet I truly cannot find a way to save your life… If only my father were still around, he would have known what to do. Unfortunately, he never taught me those skills… Perhaps it’s just not in my nature…”
The old man felt a mix of emotions—relief and worry—since even Lin Wan’er couldn’t identify a solution.
At that moment, Lin Wan’er picked up the southernmost copper coin, holding it out to the old man with a serious expression. “This Yongle Tongbao carries three coins. In my hexagram, it signifies the gate of life. Being at the southernmost point of the nine coins indicates that your birth gate lies south of Eastcliff.”
“South of Eastcliff…” the old man echoed, puzzled.
Lin Wan’er’s eyes suddenly brightened as she eximed, “Even though Ick my father’s abilities, I know someone who surely possesses them!”
With conviction, she looked at the old man and stated, “The area south of Eastcliff must be Aurous Hill!”
