The three of them entered themunity, dragging their luggage behind them, when the sound of a short car horn caught their attention from behind.
Turning around instinctively, they spotted arge Mercedes-Benz SUV cruising slowly. The window slid down, and a woman leaned out, her face lighting up with surprise. “Oh, ine! When did youe back from the United States?!”
ine was taken aback at the sight and eximed, “Souna?! Is that really you?!”
Souna drove the car closer and parked right next to ine, her demeanor exuding pride. With a smile, she teased, “ine, you’re quite amusing! After spending a month in the U.S., you still don’t recognize me as your sister-inw?”
ine’s eyebrows furrowed instantly, and a flurry of thoughts raced through her mind.<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
The first thought was, “How can Souna, that insufferable person, be driving a Mercedes-Benz? I thought she was so broke she could barely make ends meet, especially with two disabled people in her house and an elderly woman in her eighties. How on earth did she get a luxury car?”
The second thought was, “This is ridiculous! When I was in the U.S., Souna was like a shadow, always clinging to me, calling me ‘Sister’ all the time. Now she’s driving a Mercedes and suddenly thinks she can drop the ‘Sister’ act and call me ine again? Who does she think she is?”
The third thought was, “There’s no way this Souna just got lucky and bought a Mercedes-Benz. She must have some financial backing to be driving that around.”
Noticing ine’s silence, Souna continued to smile, “Oh ine, you’ve changed so much after your time in the U.S. We sisters have been close for years, yet here I am talking to you, and you’re not paying me any attention.”
ine, catching on to Souna’s jab, responded coolly, “If we’re talking about changes, then your transformation is certainly noteworthy! I remember before I left, you were begging me for a gold chain from Chow Tai Fook and calling me ‘Sister ine’ every day. Now you’re referring to yourself as my sister-inw?”
Souna retorted with a huff, “ine, as the saying goes, don’t judge a person’s character too quickly. People can change in just a few days, let alone after more than a month!”
“Please,” ine scoffed, “I’ve known you for over twenty years and haven’t found anything impressive about you, so just a month away isn’t going to change that.”<fn85fe> Discover more novels at find~novel</fn85fe>
Souna waved her hand dismissively, “Oh, whatever. You’ve always been a bit narrow-minded, ine. I see people living better than you, and I understand that I don’t want to waste my energy trying to impress you. I’ll take my leave now, goodbye!”
With that, she pressed the elerator, and the Mercedes-Benz roared to life, leaving the three of them in its dust. ine shook with anger, grinding her teeth as she muttered, “Can you believe this? Souna has gotten so bold since her lucky break!”
It was indeed true; life had been tough for their family. With her grandmother silent and her uncle and Harold bedridden, ine had been the one holding everything together. Now, with newfound wealth, their lives would surely improve.
Fuming, ine dered, “I tell you, ire, everyone can find sess in life, but Souna’s family will always struggle!”
ire looked puzzled, “Why, Mom? They’re still family. Blood ties are strong, even if we don’t interact much these days.”
“No!” ine spat through clenched teeth. “You don’t understand. Sometimes, the ones closest to you can be the most ruthless. Souna is one of those people!”
Memories flooded back to ine of a time when Souna had tried to con her out of her fortune. If it hadn’t been for Charlie stepping in, she would have lost everything.
