Charlie’s grandmother has rarely made public appearances over the years, and Asher tends to stay out of the media spotlight since his focus is on internal matters rather than external ones. This meant that Deana didn’t recognize either of them.
As she approached the door, she inquired, “Who are you two looking for?”
The elderly woman outside smiled gently at Deana and asked, “May I ask if you are Ms. Deana?”
Deana, realizing who she was, quickly responded, “Auntie, you’re too kind. I am Deana. May I know who you are?”
The olddy replied with a smile, “I am Weng Huiyin, Bruce Wade’s mother-inw and Lydia (Ava) (Charlie’s mom)’s mother.”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
As she spoke, she gestured to Asher beside her, saying, “This is my eldest son, Asher, who is also Lydia (Ava) (Charlie’s mom)’s younger brother.”
Deana’s eyes widened in surprise as she eximed, “Ah? You’re Aunt An! Please,e in! Mr. An, pleasee in as well!”
With that, she hurriedly opened the door.
Initially, Deana was puzzled about why Mrs. An hade to see her, but it quickly dawned on her that the visit likely had nothing to do with her personally. Reflecting on what Charlie had exined before, she concluded that Mrs. An must be here to seek information about Charlie.
Mrs. An thanked Asher and followed Deana inside. Just then, Zara Banks emerged from the inner door. Upon spotting the elderly woman and the middle-aged man entering the yard, she felt a twinge of confusion. Deana promptly introduced them, saying, “Let me introduce you. This is my daughter, Zara Banks. Zara, this is Grandma An and Uncle An from the United States.”
“Grandma An…” Zara involuntarily blurted out, “Isn’t that Ye…”
She had intended to say that they were not Mr. Wade’s grandmother and uncle. However, realizing the potential slip, she quickly corrected herself, “I mean, isn’t that Uncle Wade’s mother-inw?”
Curiously, Mrs. An inquired, “Miss Banks, do you know Bruce?”
Zara quickly shook her head, “Grandma An, you’ve misunderstood. I don’t know Uncle Wade. I’ve just heard about him from others, and my mother mentioned him after we moved here.”
“I see…” Mrs. An replied, epting this exnation without much suspicion. She had already looked into Deana and Bruce Wade’s past before her visit and knew about Deana’s long-standing obsession with Bruce, which had nearly led to her demise.
However, visiting Deana felt a bit awkward for her, given that this elegant and cultured woman was, in a way, a rival in love, having faced a significant defeat at the hands of her daughter.
Deana, feeling simrly ufortable, thought about her years of love for Bruce Wade and how unexpected it was for Bruce’s mother-inw to visit her.
To ease the tension, she turned to Zara Banks and said, “Zara, aren’t you supposed to be in school? It’s gettingte; you should head out.”
Zara nodded in agreement and politely addressed Mrs. An and Asher, saying, “Grandma An, Uncle An, please take your time talking with my mother. I have things to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now.”
Both Mrs. An and Asher were gracious, and at Deana’s invitation, they proceeded into the inner part of the old house.
Upon entering the room, the olddy noticed that the decor remained unchanged from twenty years ago. Memories of her daughter, son-inw, and grandson flooded back; this was thest ce her daughter had lived before her death, and tears began to flow.
Wiping her tears away quickly to avoid making Deana ufortable, she managed a smile and said, “Ms. Deana, I must admit, this is my first visit here in so many years. Thank you for taking such good care of this ce!”
Deana hurriedly responded, “Auntie, please don’t call me Ms. Deana; just call me Deana.”
The olddy nodded and then asked, “Deana, I hope it’s not too intrusive, but I’d like to ask you something.”
Anticipating the question, Deana still asked, “Auntie, what would you like to know?”
With a sigh, the olddy quietly stated, “After Bruce and Lydia (Ava) (Charlie’s mom) had their ident, their son vanished without a trace. Over the years, we’ve searched far and wide, but we haven’t uncovered any clues. I want to know if you’ve seen any suspicious young men around here, around the age of twenty-seven or eight, who might be watching or loitering?”
Deana feltpelled to lie, saying, “Auntie, to be honest, I haven’t noticed anyone. This is the old city of Aurous Hill, and the poption is dense, with a mix of peopleing and going every day. I really haven’t seen anyone behaving suspiciously.”
Mrs. An’s disappointment was evident as she remarked, “Charlie has always been very affectionate and filial to his parents. If he were still alive, he would surely have returned to see us by now…”<fnd958> Read full story at find(?)ovel</fnd958>
