In the dimly lit cell at night, a group of prisoners stood in line, taking turns in the cold shower of the bathroom.
Their reason for enduring the frigid water was simple: Charlie had urged them to do whatever it took to eliminate their body odor.
This particr group of inmates had never been particrly concerned with cleanliness. They already carried a strong scent andcked deodorant. As they huddled together, closing their eyes, the stench reminded them of a septic tank that had burst.
At that moment, Gustavo approached Charlie, a ttering smile on his face as he wiped his damp hair. He asked respectfully, “Mr. Wade, did you just meet with Bruce?”
Charlie responded coldly, “Make a note of this for meter. Stop asking foolish questions about things that are none of your business.”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
“Yes, yes, of course…” Gustavo nodded vigorously before expressing his concern, “Mr. Wade, I need to ask you something, but I’m unsure if it’s appropriate.”
Charlie replied calmly, “Just go ahead and say it.”
Gustavo hurriedly exined, “Mr. Wade, to be honest, I have no idea what crime youmitted, whether there will be a trial, or how long your sentence might be. It’s possible I might spend the rest of my life in this prison. If you manage to get out one day, what will happen to me? What if my useless son wants to take me down? Do we all have to die in here?”
Charlie raised an eyebrow, intrigued, “What are you suggesting? Do you want me to stay here with you?”
Gustavo looked rmed, quickly waving his hands, “No, no, Mr. Wade, you’ve misunderstood. I would never think that way… I just recognize your abilities. Can you help mee up with a solution?”
Charlie shook his head casually. “I don’t have a good idea. I can only promise to protect you for one day here. But if I get out tomorrow, it will simply mean our paths have diverged, and what happens to you afterward is your concern.”
Gustavo pleaded, his expression desperate. “Mr. Wade, please, help me find a way out. With my age, I can’t just die in this prison.”<fn7cdc> This content belongs to </fn7cdc>
Charlie regarded him with interest. “Since you’re bringing this up, I assume you have a n in mind. Why don’t you share it with me so we can see if it’s worth pursuing?”
Gustavo’s eyes brightened, and he leaned in closer, saying respectfully, “Mr. Wade, I have two ideas: one aggressive and one more cautious. I’m afraid neither will work without your assistance.”
Charlie gestured for him to continue. “Go ahead, I’m listening.”
Gustavo exined quickly, “The more daring n is that we find a way to escape from Brooklyn Prison, leave New York, or even flee the United States altogether.”
He added, “The time for this n is short. Joseph wanted to kill me today, but you intervened. I believe my son will soon pressure him. If Joseph can’t get to me within a day or two, my son will surely seek someone else to do the job. When that happens, I’ll be in trouble. While I still have some influence with the warden, I can ask him to arrange for both of us to leave quietly. I’ll tell him it’s for a night out with women, promising we’ll return by morning, which would give us the chance to escape.”
Charlie smirked, “That’s quite an optimistic view. Even if you manage to escape, if you don’t return, the Romanian police will undoubtedly issue a global warrant for you. How would you escape the U.S. then? Moreover, your son currently controls the entire Sanchez family. If he discovers you’ve fled, he’ll do everything in his power to hunt you down. You could have killers after you from both Mexico and the U.S., and how can you trust anyone? Haven’t your subordinates been bribed by your son? Who would you rely on to help you escape?”
Gustavo’s eyes burned with determination. “Mr. Wade, I must depend on you for help. You are incredibly capable. Can’t you devise a way to get me back to Mexico? Once I’m safely home, the rest of the Sanchez family will back me in reiming my position. I’ll be sure to show my gratitude. I can’t promise billions in cash, but we can definitely arrange something worthwhile. If nothing else, I can offer you cocaine valued at ten billion dors aspensation!”
Charlie scoffed dismissively, “Honestly, I have no interest in any money you might offer.”
Continuing in a cold tone, Charlie added, “You know my parents are Chinese. China has endured nearly a century of humiliation in modern history, with a significant portion of that me resting on the Opium War instigated by the British. In the 19th century, that so-called gentlemanly nation dedicated itself to manufacturing and distributing opium, corrupting millions of Chinese lives. Your Sanchez family can trace its roots back to that dark legacy. If there’s a country that reviles drug dealers, it’s China. As a proud descendant of the Chinese people, how could I possibly ask you for money derived from drug trafficking? That would be a disgrace to my ancestors.”
Gustavo pleaded urgently, “Mr. Wade, while I am indeed a drug dealer, I have never sold drugs in China! I only deal with Americans and earn U.S. dors, so you shouldn’t feel any moral burden at all!”
Charlie replied coldly, “There’s no need to argue. Your money holds no appeal for me.”
Gustavo quickly responded, “Listen, Mr. Wade, as long as you help me reim my position as the head of the family, the Sanchez family will follow your orders from now on! Don’t underestimate us. We have tens of billions in assets, arge private army, and extensiveworks for drug trafficking and moneyundering. We still hold significant power!”
Charlie scrutinized him, ncing around the cell before smiling slightly, “Are you really as powerful as you im?”
Gustavo understood the implication behind Charlie’s words.
Clearing his throat awkwardly, he replied, “Of course, while we are powerful, we’re just a small yerpared to the U.S. government…” At this point, Gustavo sighed deeply, looking defeated. “Mr. Wade, let me share my second n. It’s less extreme…”
Charlie nodded, “Go on.”
Gustavo spoke quickly, “Mr. Wade, Joseph has significant influence in Brooklyn Prison. Since you are his uncle and he respects you, can you convince him to do everything possible to keep me alive in this prison?”
