“A real sweetheart?!”
ine gasped, “What do you mean by that?”
charlie Wade replied earnestly, “Mom, Aunt Matilda returned to China because of her sweetheart—her current fiancé.”
He continued, “Her fiancé’s name is Hank. I’ve met him before. He’s a top economist who was specially invited from the United States to teach at Aurous Hill University of Finance and Economics. In the U.S., he worked on Wall Street and was a leading professional manager. If he wanted to, he could easily be a CEO at any of the world’s top 500panies.”
ine frowned, “What kind of professional manager is he? He doesn’t seem like a typical wage earner!”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
charlie Wade responded, “Don’t underestimate professional managers. Take the CEO of Apple, for example—his annual ie is around 100 million U.S. dors. At the current exchange rate, that’s more than 700 million yuan!”
ine’s eyes widened in disbelief at the thought of someone earning over 700 million a year just by working part-time.
charlie Wade went on, “Professor Hank may not make as much as Apple’s CEO, but earning between 30 to 50 million U.S. dors a year is definitely within his reach. Can you grasp what that means? If he wanted, he could earn 100,000 U.S. dors in a single day! But he’s a spirited individual who prefers teaching over chasing high sries, which is why he chose toe to Aurous Hill University of Finance and Economics.”
He added, “So, do you understand now why Aunt Matilda returned to Aurous Hill? It wasn’t to rekindle an old me; she came back to be with her sweetheart who is teaching here.”
ine was taken aback by charlie Wade’s exnation.
Even though she knew Matilda was engaged, she had her suspicions about Jacob when Matilda first returned. But now, charlie Wade’s words made her realize that Matilda didn’te back to see Jacob; she came to see her fiancé instead.
Feeling uncertain, she questioned charlie Wade, “Is everything you said true?”
charlie Wade looked at ine earnestly and posed a thought-provoking question: “Mom, do you really think someone like Dad could attract a woman like Aunt Matilda? Would a wealthy woman worth over a billion dors really travel all the way from the United States to reconnect with him?”
Then he continued, “Even though he’s ire’s father and I’m his son-inw, I have to ask, Mom—do you think Dad is worthy?”
charlie Wade’s probing question hung in the air, prompting ine to reflect.
Was Jacob really deserving? Was that even a fair assessment of him?<fna5a0> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n FindN0vel</fna5a0>
With his looks and demeanor, it was likely that not even an elderly woman on a pension would find him appealing.
So ine instinctively retorted, “Bah! He deserves nothing! Who could possibly like Jacob besides me? Not someone worth over a billion dors—she’s a wealthy woman!”
“Exactly!” charlie Wade seized the moment: “Honestly, with Dad’s current situation, if Aunt Matilda even nced at him again, it would mean her thirty years in the U.S. were for nothing! I’ve seen plenty of impressive talents on Wall Street; how could anyone consider an old loser like Dad? People who’ve spent thirty years in the U.S. don’te back to help the poor, do they?”
After a moment, charlie Wade sighed, “Let me be clear: the only person who could ever love Dad is you, Mom.”
