Charlie is neither an executioner nor the type of general willing to sacrifice his life for the benefit of his subordinates. When faced with a tough decision, he struggles to cope with the weight of it.
As a result, he prefers not to inform the local government about the situation unless it bes absolutely necessary. So,
he took a moment to think and then addressed Li Yalin: “Inspector Li, let’s consider this issue from a different angle. If this batch of goods does indeed contain high-tech products, perhaps we should feel somewhat reassured. After all, we discovered them before they were activated.”<fn1ad2> Read full story at </fn1ad2>
Li Yalin was momentarily at a loss for words.
He recognized that Charlie’s reasoning was sound, but it remained just a hypothesis. Until that hypothesis could bepletely verified, certainty was elusive. A miscalction at this stage could lead to disastrous consequences.<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
Yet, he understood that it wasn’t necessary to dispute Charlie’s theory right now. Since Charlie’s idea wasn’t fully validated and hecked the solid arguments to counter it, refuting it outright could lead to unnecessary internal conflict.
At this point, since Charlie had presented a usible theory, Li Yalin knew he needed to focus on gathering supporting evidence alongside him. If they failed to find any corroborating information—or stumbled upon conflicting evidence—it would indicate that the issue might not be as risky as feared. In that case, there would be no need to challenge Charlie, and he woulde to realize the situation’s limitations.
Having spent many years in criminal police work, Li Yalin was acutely aware of the dangers posed by infighting.
When ten individuals coborate on solving a case, if one person proposes an idea, the others must engage in practical efforts to validate that idea rather than immediately dismiss it. Entering a cycle of mutual refutation without constructive dialogue would ultimately destroy the team’s cohesion.
Thus, driven by a strong sense of teamwork, he responded to Charlie: “Mr. Charlie, your idea is quite reasonable. Let’s investigate what these devices are tonight. If it turns out to be aplete system, it suggests that Duke Mining hasn’t yet implemented high-tech security measures. However, if it’s only part of arger solution or merely upgradable equipment, they might already have a certain level of capability established. In that case, we’ll need to tread carefully.”
Charlie nodded in agreement, saying, “That’s correct. If we can identify the equipment’s supplier, we might be able to have AI investigate the connections between Moore Trade and these suppliers. If they had previous dealings before this batch arrived, we must exercise extra caution. If not, we may need to reconsider our approach.”
Li Yalin immediately remarked, “It might be challenging for the AI model to infiltrate the customs data of a country due to reverse tracking risks, but breaching the internal sales system of a privatepany should be rtively straightforward. Once we pinpoint the equipment supplier, AI should be able to uncover the supplier’s transactions with Moore Trade.”
At that moment, the hand-held radio on the desk in the person in charge’s office crackled to life. Li Yalin quickly grasped themunication’s content and informed Charlie, “Mr. Charlie, thest train from Duke Mining will arrive in five minutes.”
“Understood.” Charlie gestured towards the person in charge and instructed Li Yalin, “Let’s have him take us there right away!”
