The dusk that settled over the White Pack is heavier than anything I have ever seen.

Seconds rolled into minutes, minutes folded into hours, and the sky, which had brightened earlier, faded into ck.

Nyroth had promised he would return, but Lycannar… Lycannar hadn’t given me a word. He had left without a goodbye. He and his sister, and even I had begun to believe he’d do exactly what he had done days ago when I was called to the council.

I sat on my bed, my eyes fixed on the empty space in front of me. I haven’t found my brother yet, and the Ash Pack still needed an Alpha. Will I leave all that behind?

I was lost in thought when the door opened gently, and Blue walked in with a dinner tray, her eyes on me. To say she was worried about my health would be an understatement.

“It’s night, mydy. I’ve brought your dinner. Let me draw your bath. After that, you can…”

“Go out,” I cut her off, ring at her, but the look in her eyes only softened, making me feel guilty instantly.

    “Mydy…”

I lowered my gaze and swallowed hard. She wouldn’t leave. It was as though her life meant nothing to her. I bit my lower lip and let out a sigh.

“Tell me a story,” I requested softly. “Any one. Just… go ahead and speak.”

Carefully, she ced my dinner on the table at the foot of the bed and came to sit on the floor beside me, as she used to. Then she began.

“Many years ago, in a kingdom isted from the rest of the world, a prince was born. The midwives who attended his birth were killed immediately, and he was locked up in a tower that had been built for him.

“In istion, he was abandoned as an infant, left to live alone. Everyone in that isted Kingdom believed he would die but instead, voices were heard from the tower every night, cries of agony echoing through the

    walls.

“One day, a mother of one ill son, who couldn’t bear the sound of the prince’s cries any longer, found courage and went to the King to make a request. ‘I will take care of the prince,‘ she said, ‘and ask for nothing in return.’

“The king drew his de but did not strike. He allowed the woman to care for his son. She returned home at the end of each day, shaken and horrified, never speaking of what she saw in the tower. She refused to answer questions about it, only continuing her work, until the prince reached the age of fifteen.

“Then the king dismissed her with nothing, as agreed. But the prince had grown fond of her. He woulde looking for her at her home; she would cook, and he would eat with gratitude, sitting among peasants and smiling.

“This continued in secret until the king found out. Enraged that his own son dared tough with peasants,

to chase happiness, he punished him. He gave the fifteen–year–old prince a sword and ordered him to y the woman who had nurtured him.

“The prince wouldn’t do it. He hesitated. And in punishment, he was forced to watch his two sisters be abused, beaten, and tortured. When he could bear it no longer, he went to the woman himself and stabbed her repeatedly. Blood filled everywhere, and she died, leaving behind two children. A newborn baby and the ill son who suffered from epilepsy.”

A lump had formed in my throat, and I blinked quietly.

“What happened to the prince? His two sisters? And the children the woman left behind?”

Blue looked up into my eyes, blinking sadly.

“The prince believed he would never be happy again. So he ughtered everyone in his path before he could

grow attached. He allowed his father, the king, to poison his mind.

“The prince’s two sisters grew up in an abusive home, tortured whenever the king demanded it. As for the children the woman left behind, her son died one day during a seizure. The baby, however, was cared for by the head of the Kingdom maids. She grew up to be a maid and she sits before you today, mydy.“.

Tears clouded Blue’s eyes and trailed down her cheeks.

“His Majesty suffered abuses and torments you could never imagine. It exins why he would only stare and not speak. His two sisters survived hell at the hands of our former king, their own father.”

I watched her bow her head to sniff, and when she looked back up, she smiled shakily.<fnfca8> Content originallyes from FιndNovel</fnfca8>

“I had always wondered why the head of the maids had taken such special care of me. I never knew it was on His Majesty’s orders.

“Yes, he killed my mother, but I understand his situation. I love him, and I respect him. You may call me anything you want, but it won’t change how I feel for my King. When I was chosen to serve you, I knew I had to do my best. When he told me I should treat you well, I was determined to do just that.

“This illness you are passing through, the fear of me getting infected… I don’t care about it. You are the first woman my king has looked at and loved. You make him happy, and for this, I would die for you if need be. So please, mydy, don’t send me away. I won’t leave. We are in this together,e rain or shine, I will serve you until I breathe no more. Until my lifeless body is cremated and my ashes are scattered in the Lycan Kingdom Lake.”
