The bright sunlight bathed my face, pelling me to open my eyes to see that morning had alreadye.
Iy there for a while, then slowly sat up, taking in my surroundings. I was alone in the bed, and everywhere felt quieter than usual.
Carefully, I got off the bed and walked to the window, my gaze fixing on the exact spot he used to stand whenever he came by.
Lycannar.
His name echoed in my heart, and I lowered my gaze, closing my eyes to try to feel his energy but I couldn’t. Whenever the massive gates of the Lycan Kingdom closed behind him, I couldn’t even perceive
his scent.
Why did he have to leave immediately after being there for me? Who gave him the right to turn his back when I needed him the most? Did he think he could barge into my heart, steal everything I am, and expect me to just watch him walk away?
I stood there in silence until the soft sound of the door opening caught my attention. The footsteps stopped forward, and I turned to see her. Blue.
Her beautiful eyes met mine, and she trailed her gaze down my body.
“You are… feeling well, mydy,” she muttered, a proud excitement clouding her face. “Princess Mearez is still the best healer. I knew she would get the job done.”
Silence fell between us when I didn’t respond. I watched her stare, and slowly, her gaze dropped.
“Did I… say anything wrong, mydy?”
I turned away, staring out at the bright sky. It was a peaceful day, and I let out a soft sigh. Blue now served as a reminder that Lycannar was still in my life, still in my heart. I slowly looked down at my fingers and swallowed hard.
“Why didn’t you tell Lycannar about my identity?” I asked quietly. “You know who I am. You know I am an Ashmere. You saw the Beta of Ash Pack bow before me the other night at Luna Tahlia’s house. Why keep that a secret from your king?”
“I am following orders, mydy,” she replied softly. “His Majesty said I should serve only you. That means I must be loyal to no one else but you.”
“So that means… if I leave here… if by any chance I return to my pack… you wille along?”
She met my eyes, hesitation and worry flickering across her face, tinged with sadness.
“I will go anywhere with you, mydy. Don’t… push me away. Please.”
I lowered my gaze from her face. She was fiercely loyal. From her stance, from her attitude, I could tell she would die for me.

“Who am I?” I asked softly. Silence. I looked up, finding her fingers entwined nervously.

“From whispers, words I have heard in the house, and what I have seen so far… You are Zephyrine Ashmere. The only daughter of thest Warlord, Vale. Your mother is a war general, Seraphine, and your brother, Varyn, is the best war strategist. He was supposed to be Alpha after your parents were reported dead in the war… but he’s missing.”
I stayed quiet for a long time, almost smiling at her words. She knew it all.
“You have been my personal maid for a while. Tell me,” I said carefully, “who is best for me. Nyroth or Lycannar?”
A small frown creased her face, and she shook her head.
“Do you have topare my king to any other man?” she asked, and my heart tightened. “Between a man who looks at only you like he’d devour you, and a man who chose another woman when you were dying… who do you think is best?”
A cold chill ran down my spine. I stepped back, her words heavy in my heart.
Before I could respond, the door opened again. Dessyn walked in, looking exhausted. She paused when she saw me standing.
“Zephyr!” she rushed forward, hugging me tightly. I stood in her arms, staring at her as she pulled back. “My gods… how do you feel? Are you okay? Princess Mearez said you’d be fine, but I never knew it would be so soon. Are you…”
Her voice trailed off. She walked to the bed and flopped onto it tiredly, running her fingers through her hair.
“Last night felt like a year. I wouldn’t know what to tell Jurrek if anything had happened to you. Alpha Auedric is equally worried, and… rumors are flying about the duel you had with the rogue.”
I was about to ask a question when a knock came at the door. I turned slowly to see Moon step into the chamber, quiet and gentle.
His eyes found me, and for a fleeting moment, I saw a smile on his face. He took a step forward and hugged me tightly.
“I was so worried about you, Zephyr,” he whispered, his gaze locked on mine. “It’s… it’s so good to see you back to yourself.”
I nodded, aware that Blue watched Moon without blinking.<fnf8cb> N?w ?ovel chapt?rs are published on Find★Novel</fnf8cb>
“Thank you for making the journey, Moon. I am so…”
“Tell that to His Majesty,” Moon interrupted softly. “If it wasn’t for him… I wouldn’t have survived.”
I stiffened at his words, and the others flinched too. Moon’s gaze met mine, his lips curling in a small, defeated smile.
“He’s a king after all… powerful and…” He paused, nodding. “He took a hit for me. His chest bled because of my mistake, and he did all the work. He stepped into the empire grove… and though it was just before us, to him it felt like somewhere else. I heard him respond to a voice only he could hear. And after he plucked the flower and mounted his horse… I felt a change in him.”

“What… what changed? What happened to him?” My heart thudded in my chest.
“He is pale. It’s like he’s sick.”

I stiffened further. Lycannar hadn’t been himself the day I copsed. He was pale and yet he had made that journey. Now… he is…
“I will go to the Lycan Kingdom.”
