Back Where 84

    Lycannar

I paused at the foot of the stairs, staring at the dining hall. She was not yet back.

“Lycannar.” My eldest sister rose from her seat, eyes fixed on me. “Zephyrine left already.”

I said nothing for a long moment. I was surprised she had gone in such a hurry, without a word, without even a goodbye. My gaze dropped to the jewelry I hade to deliver, and I tucked it away, my heart heavy with strange, unfamiliar feelings.

Quietly, I began to make my way back to my tower, but Serena’s voice called from behind.

“Are you okay with Baron being your beta?” I turned to stare at her in silence. “He will share a vow with you and feel your energy. The kingdom will fall into his hands when you cannot rule. I know my uncle, Dareth. He didn’t perform anypetition. He only seeks to rule through his son.”

I blinked gently and moved forward to the chair where I settled, remaining quiet, aware of my fatigue. Mearez reached out to me, but I pulled away from her hand. Slowly, I looked up to see horror etched across

    her face.

“Lycannar… you used your curse again, didn’t you?” she asked, anger evident in her voice. I looked away.

“How do you mean?” Serena asked, curious. “We were all there when he broke the rule of his curse a week ago.”

Mearez did not answer; her anger rendered her speechless. She suddenly turns to leave, but I shot up to block her path.

    “Mearez, I am fine.”

“Get out of my way, Lycannar. I won’t say it again.” Her re was sharp, full of fire.

Serena moved forward, worry etched in her features.

“What’s going on? Did he break the rule of his curse again?”

“It’s nothing,” I muttered softly. Serena froze, shocked.

“You broke the rule of your curse again, right after surviving agonizing pain? Why?!” she demanded. I sighed, exhausted.

Their anger softened into concern, and Mearez took my hand, guiding me down into the chair.

“How do you feel? Lycannar… does your life mean nothing to you?”

“I can’t die. Don’t worry about it,” I muttered, lowering my head and trying to fight the pain. I felt Serena’s palm rest gently on my arm, and I sighed softly, appreciating their presence and support.

“If you ever use your curse like this again, I will inform my brother Hades,” Mearez warned. I slowly lifted my gaze to her.

I didn’t want that. Hades was as kind as he was unforgiving, and he had made me promise never to put myself through such pain again. But I could not stand aside while those close to Zephyrine suffered or die.

“I’m sorry I made you both worry,” I murmured. Silence settled around us, but Mearez’s hand stayed warm on mine, Serena’s palm soothing on my shoulder.

Finally, my eldest sister spoke softly.

“Lycannar… I asked Zephyrine. She told me… bearing your pups is what she wants. She… she is in love with you.”

My heart skipped a beat. I was silent, overwhelmed, feeling the awe in Serena’s gaze as she stepped back to ask.<fn3894> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n find·novel</fn3894>

“Are you sure she told you about love? Mearez, she did?”

“Ask your brother yourself,” Mearez said softly. “His woman confessed to himst night.”

Serena turned to me instantly, her gaze heavy with questions. I met it with a nod, sighing.

“I want her. I want her so much,” I muttered, lowering my gaze. “I have never wanted anything as much as I want Zephyrine. All of her.”

“My gods,” Serena whispered, ing forward to press a hard kiss to my lips. “I’m so happy for you, baby brother… someone like Zephyrine, who’s beautiful, smart, and strong. I couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for you. Mearez, what do you think?”

Mearez remained silent, her eyes tinged with sadness. Softly, she said,

“What if she sees Lycannar for who he truly is and withdraws? What then?”

“Mearez, you’re thinking too far,” Serena cautioned, though Mearez pressed on.

“They are making love already, without barriers. What if she gets pregnant? Do you know what her pup will be? Part werewolf, part Lycan, and part demon. She needs to know what she’s getting into, Lycannar. Don’t you think you should tell her now?”

A cold chill ran down my spine at Mearez’s words, but before I could respond, my uncle Dareth entered, nked by seven elders from the council.

An official, sudden meeting. I straightened, concealing any sign of surprise. My sisters mirrored my expression. None of us expected this.

“Your Majesty, I apologize for the impromptu gathering, but we have found something significant while clearing your father’s chamber.”

    I froze.

What could they have found? Anything about thete king was enough to haunt me. My sisters‘ nces mirrored my confusion.

“Here it is. A decree. Written, signed, and stamped. As if my brother knew death wasing for him, he left these final words.”

My uncle Dareth handed me the royal scroll. I stared at it for what felt like an eternity. It was sealed.

Why hadn’t I noticed it the night I strangled him?

Finally, I reached for the scroll, unfolding it carefully. The handwriting was unmistakable my father’s. Authentic. True.

“By my sovereign will, I dere this my final and unbreakable decree. Should death im me, my only son, Lycannar, shall ascend the throne to rule over all Lycans. At his side shall sit Cyran Selric as his Queen. Should he fail to honor thismand, my daughters Mearez and Serena shall be stripped of every title, every privilege, and cast into eternal servitude as ves. Let it be known this decree is absolute, eternal, and backed by the full power of the crown. None shall dare defy it, for to do so is to invite the wrath of the realm itself.”

The scroll went cold in my hands. My blood ran icy. I could feel my sisters‘ eyes on me, but I did not look up. Even in death, my father had found a way to torment me. Why?
