“We were called to wash your aunt’sundry, mydy Kostyra. Since I was less busy, I decided to help Selia, one of the three maids that came with Madam Isolde. When I got there, I caught that scent on her dress, the one she had just pulled off after riding into the pack in her carriage. I recognized it immediately as the scent of Luna Tahlia. That’s how I knew it was from ckbridge pack. After we finished theundry, Selia was summoned in by Lady Kostyra, and I swear I never meant to eavesdrop until I heard the names ‘Zephyr and Apex. I knew it was about you and my king. I mean, she could speak of you since you are her niece, but my king… both of you at once? I grew suspicious. I overheard Selia saying Princess Mearez and the Dusks had already arrived and seemed to be awaiting your arrival with Lord Varyn. Lady Kostyra replied with a scoff that you would be dead with my king in ckwater. That the mission would not seed.”
I sighed, staring at the sun rising in the horizon, glorious and golden as if to bless us all. Yesterday had been drenched in rain, but today the sun chose to bless.
I had not slept at all. How could I, when I learnedst night that my aunt was the betrayer, plotting to wipe me and my brother out? Even the Lycan King.
I stirred in bed, my eyes lowering to Blue, loyal to the point of fault. Loving and respecting her king to the edge of reason.
I reached down to drape the nket over her, only for her to stir and open seeing me in the sunlight, she sat up.
“Mydy. Good morning.”

I didn’t respond with words. I only smiled, and she rose to her feet. Slowly, she headed into the bath chamber to wash her face.
After she departed, the door opened and Isolde entered, head bowed with the three maids.
“Mydy, good morning. We will prepare your bath now,” Isolde said, moving toward the chamber, but I held out my hand to stop her.
“Among you… who is Selia?” My voice was curt, just as Blue returned from the chamber, her face fresh and clean.
The three maids froze, and Isolde turned to them, then back to me in confusion.
“Mydy…”
“Who among you is Selia?” I cut her off, repeating the question.

Tension fell heavy until one stepped forward. A brte with an innocent face, one that could never be mistaken for a viin. A spy.
She bowed, and I stared at her for what felt like eternity. Her. She had given my enemies words. If Lycannar hadn’t been as skilled as he was back in ckwater, we would be dead alongside Varyn.
I bit my lower lip and beckoned her forward.
“Come. Sit,” I said gently, but she knew it was a facade. She could feel it. I saw it in the way she hesitated, stepping back, only for the door to open again. Dessyn entered, urgent.
“Zephyr, your aunt demands to see Varyn.”
Hearing this, I lifted my gaze and shook my
head.
“No one sees my brother except those already allowed.”
“She won’tply. She insists.”
My jaw tightened. If that’s the case, then I must resort to thest solution.
I reached for my sword, the rare de I rarely drew from behind my bedframe. Gasps filled the chamber as I stood, my eyes fixed on Selia, the spy.
“Walk,” I ordered. She shivered, obeying at once, moving toward the exit. I followed slowly, my sword dragging against the floor until we reached the hall. My aunt was there, arguing with Jurrek who blocked her path.
“Varyn is my nephew. I must see him!”
“You won’t be seeing my brother, Aunt,” I said from where I stood. She turned, freezing when she saw me. As I approached, she stiffened and began backing away until we stood in the open space.
Pack members nearby froze, confusion painted on their faces.
I stopped before her. Her face had gone pale, though she forced herself to remain defiant.
“What do you think you are doing, Zephyr? How dare you keep my own nephew from me?!”
Her words made me lose my temper. I turned to Selia, who thought she had found safety at a distance. She was wrong.

“Jurrek,” I called, and my beta rushed forward, confused but never questioning.
I passed him my sword, then slowly walked to Selia, taking her hand tenderly.
“Tell me… what have you been telling my aunt about me? Go on. Speak.”

She shuddered, her face draining of color. Her eyes darted to Aunt Kostyra, who subtly signaled to her. Selia turned back to me, shaking her head, copsing to her knees in pretense.
“Mydy… I have never spoken to your aunt about anything. I have…”
She was still speaking when I drew my de from its sheath. In a blink, her throat was cut open. Gasps erupted around us. Blood spilled, and she gagged, staring up at me in disbelief.
I gently dropped the sword and lowered myself, pulling her into my arms, patting her back softly.
“Rest now. Rest.”
As though obeying, she leaned into me and died. Her body turned cold, blood soaking my gown and fingers.
I stood, shoving her body aside like filth, and turned to my aunt. Her defiance cracked atst, fear overtaking her.
From Lycannar I had learned one lesson. The easiest way to solve a problem is to remove the threat.
I seized her wrist, my gaze hard.
“You… you’ve let that cursed king turn you into… into a maniac,” she stammered. “You killed… an innocent girl.”
Bitterness wed at my throat, but I pressed on.
“Tell me, Aunt. You went to ckbridge pack. What did you do there?” I raised the sword. “I
swear I won’t hesitate to…”
“You are not fit to be Alpha!” she spat, adrenaline forcing her confession. “The prophecy is true. Being with that cursed king will bring chaos to us all. And now it’s happening. Warrior June of ckbridge pack will be hanged at the market square tomorrow because of you and the cursed Lycan King! Because he refused to stop you both. His blood will be on your hands.”
She trembled violently. I swallowed hard, then turned to Jurrek.

“Have men Guard her quarters. She must not leave the pack until I say so. And no one sees my brother besides the Dusks, Blue, Isolde, you and me.”
Jurrek, as always, did not question. He bowed.
I left, heart pounding at the word again.
Prophecy.
That same prophecy I heard from the council members?
What prophecy?
