I stared at it once again, stunned. She had… removed the amulet ne that bound us. I could feel it from the anklets that chained me, from my very soul.

Emptiness crawled back in, devouring me whole, and I lost every trace of her in the empire. No scent. No thread. Nothing. She was gone.

I sat still, hollow, unable to move. Did it mean… her brother had spoken to her? Convinced her? My thoughts spun, stunned and disoriented, so much that even when my brother appeared at the doorway, I barely noticed.

Lost, until Chantel was sent in, standing before me, trying to draw me back. I dragged myself to reality, lifting my gaze slowly at my chantel, then at my brother, who frowned with concern.

    “You alright?” he asked.

I didn’t answer. Instead, I reached again, inside, searching for the bond, for Zephyrine, only to find nothing but futility. My gaze dropped to the anklets, once a lifeline, now nothing more than shackles.

“Apex?” my brother called again, softer this time. “Come out to the dining hall. Dinner is ready.”

    I swallowed and nodded.

“I’ll be there in a minute.”

He lingered, staring, then left. Chantel remained, eyes fixed on me.

“I’m fine. You can go,” I muttered.

He didn’t move. I looked up, sharp.

    “What?”

“Your runes,” he said quietly. “They’re glowing.”

    A near–snarl escaped me.

I pushed up from my seat and walked toward the hall. Four days had passed since she left without a word, leaving a Luna with us as if that would make up for her absence. Four days of silence. Would she return whole? Would she still love me?

Descending the stairs, I saw my family already gathered. I had just stepped forward when Luna Tahlia’s bright voice carried across the room.

“I’ve received notice to return to my pack,” she announced, holding a sealed scroll.

At once, my sisters rose eagerly.

“Truly?” Serena asked, taking the scroll. Her eyes scanned it, then lit up. “Your son will be crowned Alpha?”

“Not yet. We will go to trial and after that we will know the verdict which undoubtedly will be to let justice prevail.”

“By the gods…” Serena grinned wide. “Young ck will make history as the youngest Alpha ever.”

The Luna nodded, joy spilling from her, while Mearez smiled proudly beside her. I slid into my seat, silent, still weighed down by the echo of loss.

Why had Zephyrine removed the amulet?

“Your Majesty,” my uncle’s voice cut through. “Have you chosen a date for the wedding ceremony?”

I turned to him, nearly sighing. He was taunting me. He knew I couldn’t set a date without Mother, without the true queen, without the high priestess, without my father’s will from the demon throne.

“Not yet,” I muttered, swallowing bile. The fear pressed heavy in my chest. What if… she didn’t want me anymore? What if I had already lost her?

But then the thunder of hooves. My horse.

My head snapped up. The sound grew closer until she dismounted, footsteps echoing into the

    hall.

    Zephyrine.

My pulse froze. She hade. She had journeyed back to me. To do what? To love me, or hate

    me?

“Alpha Zephyrine,” Luna Tahlia gasped, rushing forward to embrace her. My sisters crowded around, showing her the scroll.

Zephyrine read it, then lifted her face to Luna Tahlia with a radiant smile. No words were needed. Emotions soared. They hugged, tight, breathless.

“You will return with your head high to your pack,” Zephyrine murmured. “You will win the trial.”

“Yes,” the Luna replied, eyes glistening.

They looked at one another, smiling through joy. Then her gaze shifted. Fell on me. My chest seized. My breath stuttered. She stepped forward, and I sat motionless, but inside I was a

    storm.

Something was different. Around her neck was a ne like the one I had given her, yet not the same. I knew it. I could swear my life on it. Or… was I mistaken?

Before I could think further, she came closer, leaned in, and pressed a kiss to my lips. My heart stilled, then swelled violently. She didn’t know the truth yet. I saw it now.

“Hi,” she whispered. Just that. And the sound of her voice tore everything else away. Family, hall, time.

    Only us remain.

“I missed you,” I breathed, confession raw.

She smiled, kissed me again, then ced a sealed, gleaming case in my hands.

“My first im of you, Lycannar. Open it.”

Confusion prickled, but I obeyed. Insidey a ring white jade, carved with the Ashmere crest, the fierce wolf etched with reverence.

    I looked

    up, stunned.

“I’m iming you as my man too,” she said softly. “Everyone should know you’re taken, until

    we make it official.”

A smile tugged my lips. Strange, foreign, but real. This was the price, the beauty, the chaos of loving a fiery warrior Alpha.

“Should I put it on you?” she asked, tilting her head. “I guessed your size, but I don’t know if I’m right.”

    I nodded, wordless.

With eager fingers, she took my hand, slid off the ring I wore, and reced it, cing her own on my fourth finger, sealing her im before my entire bloodline.

The moment it settled, something erupted inside me. My chest clenched. A groan broke free as I bent forward, gripping the table.

“Lycannar?” Her voice, urgent, her hand on my shoulder. Peace surged at once. The storm inside me stilled under her touch.

I lifted my gaze, steadying. She was there concerned, radiant, mine. And the bond, once severed, now roared back, tighter, fiercer, choking.
