Invitation 18

Macie didn’t answer Edward’s first question. There was no need to. But as for the second, since it involved ess to the house, she exined, “I contacted your assistant. He’s your employee and has been to the house a few times. He won’t leak your address. You trust him as well.”

Edward lost his temper immediately. He wanted to blurt out what was truly on his mind, but what came out was, “So what if he’s my employee? He was there when you were home, but you weren’t there this

    time!”

It was just an excuse to vent his frustration because he couldn’t say the real reason out loud.

Why would she rather call Nathan than call him a second time? Was it just because he hung up on her once? Hadn’t she ignored hundreds of his calls before?

The thought that Macie would rather turn to an outsider than to him was driving him insane. <fn5bd6> Find the newest release on FιndNovel</fn5bd6>

Macie was silent on the other end of the line for a few seconds.

She knew that Edward didn’t like strangers entering his house, which was precisely why she had chosen Nathan and emphasized that he could be trusted. Even so, Edward still ended up being furious.

“There’s surveince at home. If you’re worried, you can check the footage. You can also change the door lock when you get back. This won’t happen again.” Macie epted his anger calmly.

She had left in a hurry and forgotten to bring her medical card. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have needed to

    ask anyone for help.

“Is that the point? The point is-” Edward shouted but suddenly choked on his words, unable to continue.

Macie frowned slightly and thought for a moment before saying, “Then open the windows for venttion when you get back, or call a cleaning service for a deep clean.”

Even for someone as obsessive with cleanliness as him, it was all too much. It wasn’t like Nathan had

never been to the house before.

<b>“</b>You!” Edward was so infuriated that he hung up and mmed his hand against the steering wheel in

    frustration.

He couldn’t believe that she had called Nathan. Feeling resentful, Edward thought that he would rather

die than care about Macie again!

He restarted the car and headed toward the restaurant where he was supposed to meet Sharon. His expression remained stormy and terrifyingly dark, and even after reaching the private dining room, his anger hadn’t subsided.

“What’s wrong, Ed? Who made you so mad?” Sharon asked with concern.

“Who else…” Edward’s voice was cold. However, he stopped mid–sentence as he sat down. “It’s those ipetent subordinates. Their work is just awful.”

Sharonforted him, “That’s because you’re too good. Your employees just can’t keep up with you. Don’t be angry, Ed. It’s after work. So let’s not think about it anymore, okay?”

“I’m not angry. I’m perfectly fine.” Edward huffed.

“Oh, really? Your expression is as ck as coal, and your tone is so sharp,” Sharon teased, holding up a

    small mirror to him.

As Edward stared at his reflection, he was momentarily stunned. His face did look murderous, as if he

    had been provoked beyond reason.

But why? Why was he so mad?

This wasn’t right. Macie didn’t call him again. That was all.

Edward pressed his lips together and stayed quiet for a while. When the food arrived, he finally concluded that it was because Macie had let Nathan into the house without his permission and even gave him the door code. She clearly didn’t take Edward seriously.

Sharon used a clean fork to ce a spare rib on Edward’s te and smiled.

“Cheer up. You’re with me now.”

“Sorry. My bad,” Edward apologized. However, his smile looked more like a grimace than anything else.

Sharon assumed that he was just stressed from work. It only made her happier that he had left work on time to have dinner with her even after his subordinates had made such a huge mistake.
