Invitation 29

    Chapter <b>29 </b>

Hence, Sharon instructed Reba to move Macie’s things out of the room. Although she did not get to stay in the master bedroom, Sharon found it satisfying to have kicked Macie out of her own room.

Edward furrowed his brows as he watched them move Macie’s belongings. He entered the room and noticed Reba trying to pry open a drawer. He went over to help.

Men were physically stronger. After a few tries, Edward managed to yank the drawer open with his brute force. Even the metal parts of the lock were bent out of shape. (1)

Only a notebook with a light blue cover was ced in the drawer.

Edward picked up the notebook and flipped to the first page. He instantly realized what the notebook

    was.

“Only those with secrets would write diaries,” Edward snickered. He was about to flip to the next page when a hand reached over from above his head and snatched the notebook away.

<b>“</b>You shouldn’t be reading a woman’s diary. I’ll help May keep it somewhere safe.”

Edward pursed his lips. He stared at the notebook, debating whether to ask for it back. But at the same time, reading the diary felt pointless. He got up and left the room.

After Edward was gone, Sharon flipped to a page randomly. Her eyes bulged when she read the contents. Sharon wanted badly to tear the notebook in half. She was so d that Edward had not read the diary.

At first, Sharon considered tearing the notebook to shreds and discarding it. Yet, she eventually changed her mind and ced the notebook under her pillow. A sinister smile tugged at her lips.

“May, <b>I’ll </b>treat this as a gift from you…” she thought.

In the ward, Macie had received another “tip–off” from Nathan. He informed her that Sharon had moved

into their house and exined why it happened.

Macie pressed her lips together. She had known about it much earlier, but there was nothing she could do

    to change the arrangement.

She typed a reply, telling Nathan to ignore the issue and not to update her about these things anymore. She could tell that Nathan was trying to help ease the tension between her and Edward.

However, Macie would be divorcing Edward in another two weeks.

She had also spoken to the doctor and had her admission extended from one week to two. Macie wanted to avoid seeing Edward and Sharon as much as possible. She simply wanted to have some peace during

    this final stretch.

Meanwhile, Reba had carried out Sharon’s instructions and finished moving all of Macie’s stuff into

the smaller guest room, which was used as a storeroom. Sharon had ultimately imed Macie’s old room

    for herself.

She looked at the master bedroom’s door, which was tightly shut, and tried turning the door knob. However, she found that it was locked from the inside. It was as though Edward was trying to keep

    thieves and burrs out.

“Edward, have you gone to bed? I just want to let you know that I’m done unpacking my things,” Sharon

    began to say.

“You should rest early, then.” Edward’s voice came from behind the door.

“Alright. You too. Good night,” Sharon replied.

She walked back to her room, albeit reluctantly. Nevertheless, she figured that she had all the time since she managed to move into this house with him..

Things were quite peaceful for the next few days. Nathan had brought Macie a new phone and told her that Edward had bought it for her. Yet, Macie simply tossed it into the drawer of her bedside table.

“Did she say anything about the phone?” Edward was reviewing documents in his office with his head

    lowered.

“…Mrs. Fowler didn’t say anything. She even tossed it aside, lookingpletely repulsed…” Nathan grumbled inwardly.

However, out loud, he lied and said, “Mrs. Fowler told me to thank you. She liked it very much.” He smiled

    slightly.

Edward lifted his gaze and looked at Nathan. “To be precise, was she thanking me or you?”

Nathan felt a chill run down his spine. He smiled awkwardly. “She was thanking you, of course. I told her <fn69e9> The rightful source is find(?)ovel</fn69e9>

that it was a gift from you.”

Edward was finally satisfied. He asked, “How long will she stay at the hospital?”

“She asked the doctor, and it would take around two weeks,” Nathan answered.

“It’s going to take that long?” Edward frowned. “But she said that she wouldn’t need surgery.”

“She suffered from fractured bones, after all. It’ll help with the recovery if she stays there longer,” Nathan

    responded.

Edward fell silent, so Nathan turned to leave. Just as he reached the door, he heard Edward’s instructions.

“ce an order with The Terrace and have them deliver food to the hospital every day.”

    hapter 29

    “Understood,” Nathan responded.

After leaving Edward’s office, Nathan found himself feeling quite confused.
