Chapter 59
Sharon’s eyes lit up with surprise, but she hesitated, feigning uncertainty. “This is the ne you spent two hours choosing and paid a fortune for, just for May. It wouldn’t be right for me to ept it.”
Edward’s anger red. Two hours and nine million dors, yet Macie had dismissed it without a second thought, even throwing it aside. “She doesn’t deserve it. Just take it,” he said coolly before heading into the master bedroom and shutting the door.
Sharon watched him leave. Then, a greedy and excited smile curled her lips. She had initially nned to make Macie return the ne to Edward, but now, getting her hands on it had been effortless.
Wasting no time, she put it on, sat in front of the vanity, and took photos under perfect lighting to highlight the dazzling rose–crowned design. Then, she posted them on her Instagram ount.
Inside the master bedroom, Edwardy in bed after washing up. He intended to sleep but found himself wide awake.
His phone screen kept switching between two pages–Macie’s contact profile and their chat window.
He wrestled with his emotions, torn between anger and hesitation. He wanted an exnation, yet he also wanted her toe begging for his forgiveness.
Ultimately, pride and reason won out. He refused to be the one to reach out first. If she had the guts, she
could stay in the hospital forever and nevere home.
Scoffing, Edward ced his phone on the nightstand, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.
At dawn, Macie’s internal clock woke her up early. She instinctively sat up and was ready to head to the
kitchen to make breakfast–only to freeze. She nced around and reminded herself that she was back
in her own home, wholly disconnected from Edward.
Shey back down and shut her eyes, trying to fall asleep again. However, it was futile.
Habits were terrifying. Two years of routine had etched themselves into her very being. Her lips pressed together, and her eyes were cold. She needed to break free from these habits and erase everything tied to
Edward,
Since she couldn’t sleep, she got up, changed into casual clothes, and went for a morning run. By the time the sun had fully risen, she was having breakfast.
Macie messaged Alice to see if she was awake. Half an hourter, Alice finally replied, stillzing in bed while gossiping about entertainment news.
Macie opened the screenshot Alice sent her. The headline read, “Edward from Fowler Group Buys a Nine-
Million–Dor Ne for His Girlfriend.” 1

Macie ate her pudding, musing about how small the world was. She hadn’t even been gone two days, and already Edward was in the news.
Her appetite was ruined as that was the first thing she read in the morning.
She had no interest in the article and was about to exit the page when the image of the ne caught
her eye. She paused.
It was a rose design, entirely encrusted with pink diamonds. It looked exquisite and luxurious. However,
wasn’t this thepensation gift Edward had mentioned to Macie four nights ago?
Back then, he imed that it was nothing expensive. Yet, it was actually worth nine million dors.
And now, it adorned Sharon’s neck. Thetter’s caption on her social media post read, “Thank you for the
ne! I love it!”
Macie let out a cold, mocking smile. It turned out that the ne was for Sharon all along. Then why
bother pretending to give it to her?
She considered that Edward had perhaps assumed that she wouldn’t ept it. After all, he had never
once bought her a gift in thest two years.
Macie thought that Edward was hypocritical and efficient as he killed two birds with one stone.
She exited the page and shut off her phone, but just then, a video call from Alice came through. She answered, and Alice, noticing the breakfast shop in the background, gasped. “You’re up this early? Aren’t you experiencing any jetg?” 1
“Jetg is just a matter of forcing your body to adapt. Two days is enough to reset it,” Macie replied calmly, as if she were simply talking about an internal clock.
