It would be a disaster for Nathan if Macie answered his call and blocked Edward’s number.
Nathan stole another nce at Edward, feeling the suffocating tension in the air.
Edward’s demeanor was dark and brooding, causing Nathan to sense that his life might be in danger.
“Sorry, the number you dialed is unavable. Please try againter.” The mechanical voice echoed again.
Edward froze while Nathan was grateful for the situation.
“Try calling again,” Edward ordered.
Nathan redialed several times, but the response was always the same.
Edward let out a soft chuckle. “So, she treats everyone the same, huh?”
Just like that, the anger he had been brewing faded away, his mood inexplicably lighter, though he wasn’t quite sure why.
“Forget it. You can go. She’s blocked you, too,” Edward said.
Nathan blinked in confusion, then nced down at his phone. He finally understood that Edward was
mad that Macie had blocked him.
“Mr. Fowler, this might not necessarily mean that you were blocked. It could just be that her phone is
turned off,” Nathan suggested.
Edward frowned. “How could it be? She’s in the hospital. Of course she’d have her phone. I called her
multiple times this morning and received the same response.”
“Well-”
Before Nathan could think of another excuse, Edward muttered, “Her phone–right, I smashed it four days
ago.”
Nathan was shocked that Edward and Macie’s fight had been that serious.
“But I bought her a new one. Did she not use it? Or did she just block me?” Edward’s anger red up again.
“Mr. Fowler, instead of making guesses, wouldn’t it be quicker to go to the hospital and ask her yourself?” Nathan suggested.
“I’m not going,” Edward coldly refused without a second thought. “She tried to kill me. She should be the oneing to apologize and beg for forgiveness. I’ve already let it go by not pressing charges. Does she
expect me to go to her first?”
Nathan hesitated before finally revealing what Macie had told him that day. “As a man, I think you
should visit her first. There’s nothing shameful about making the first move in love. In fact, a man who takes the initiative is the most attractive.”
Edward stared nkly at Nathan.
“Mrs. Fowler told me that she didn’t do it. I think that there might have been a misunderstanding between you two. It’s best to meet and clear things up,” Nathan continued.
“At the very least, what if she simply forgot to turn off the gas by ident? If the gas leak wasn’t intentional and she was the one who got hurt the worst, you hadn’t even checked on her once in all these days.” 1
Edward fell silent. His gaze unfocused as he pressed his lips together, lost in thought.
Nathan observed his reaction, hoping that Edward would finally go to the hospital and talk things through with Macie.
After a long pause, Edward finally spoke. “Macie said all of this?”
“Yes. She told me personally and was very emotional about it. I don’t think she was lying,” Nathan replied.
“Then why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Edward demanded.
“Mrs. Fowler didn’t want me to. She said that you wouldn’t believe her and that you only believe what <b>you </b>want to believe,” Nathan answered.
Edward felt a sting. It did seem like something Macie would say.
But if she had exined, would he really not have listened? Even if she had just said that it was an ident, wouldn’t that have been enough to stop him from being so angry?
“As for why I didn’t tell you immediately,” Nathan added, “it’s because you were already furious that day. <b>I </b>was afraid that it would only escte the fight, so I thought that it would be better to wait a couple of
days.”
Edward pursed his lips before suddenly standing up.
Seeing him about to leave, Nathan asked, “Are you going to the hospital to see Mrs. Fowler?”
Edward turned his head and frowned. “I have lunch ns with Sharon.”
