Invitation 73

    Chapter 73

Edward obediently followed Sharon and got into the cab.

Meanwhile, at the next intersection, Macie declined Julian’s offer to tour thepany in advance, opting to wait for Alice instead. When the red sports car pulled up, she quickly got in.

“You’re unbelievable, May! When I mentioned Julian, you acted like you wanted nothing to do with him, but then you happily hopped into his car just to talk to him longer,” Alice teased.

Macie had no words to defend herself. Bracing herself, she exined, “It was only for a few minutes. We barely had time to say anything.”

“Yeah, but that’s enough time to sneak in a few kisses.” Alice smirked.

    Macie fell silent.

“Come on, spill. What did you two talk about? If you don’t tell me, I’ll just make up my own version,” Alice pressed. (1)

With a helpless smile, Macie sighed. “I swear, we only talked about work.”

The two women bickered yfully on the way home.

The cab stopped outside a luxury hotel. Sharon helped Edward toward the entrance, but he suddenly yanked his arm away, frowning.

“I have a wife. Keep your distance,” Edward emphasized. 1

Sharon’s lips curled into a smirk, amusement flickering in her eyes. She thought, “Let’s see if you can still say that once we’re in bed. I’ll make sure there’s no distance left between us.”

She then turned to Edward and coaxed with a smile. “Of course. Let’s go home. May is waiting for you.”

At first, Edward went along with her, but as they reached the hotel entrance, he abruptly stopped. His gaze fixed on the doors. Then, he nced up at the building.

“What’s wrong, Edward? Let’s go home,” Sharon said, trying to nudge him forward.

Edward suddenly swung his arm, forcefully shrugging her off. Sharon staggered back, nearly toppling in her high heels.

“This isn’t my home. Don’t try to fool me,” Edward snapped, turning on his heel to leave.

Panic surged through Sharon. She wondered if he had sobered up.

She quickly followed him, only to see him pulling out his phone and making a call.

His voice carried a hint of grievance as he said, “Macie,e pick me up. I drank too much. Did you

make my favorite hot soup? I want to drink it.”

On the other end of the line was his assistant, Nathan.

“Mr. Fowler, where are you? Have you had too much to drink? I’lle get you right away,” Nathan said.

Edward nced up at the illuminated hotel sign.

    “Four Weather Grand Hotel.”

Behind him, Sharon, who had overheard the conversation, assumed he was really calling Macie. She

reached out, ready to snatch his phone, only to realize that he had called Nathan instead. <fnb203> Get full chapters from FindN()vel</fnb203>

What was more, he could still recognize words and speak clearly. Sharon wasn’t sure how drunk Edward

actually was, but she was determined to take advantage of the situation.

Whenever Edward was sober, he rejected her at every turn. So, she figured that this was her best chance.

She grabbed his arm, trying to pull him up, but Edward simply sat down on the curb, silent and unmoving,

waiting for Macie to pick him up.

Nathan arrived at the hotel ten minutester, having precisely tracked the location.

    What he saw was unexpected.

The normallyposed, cold, high–status CEO sat on a stone step.

His expensive suit looked like something bought from a discount rack, pletely out of ce on him.

now. Next to him, Sharon was desperately trying to pull him up.

“Mr. Fowler, are you alright?” Nathan asked as he approached.

Edward lifted his head, frowning. “Nathan, why are you here?”

    “Mr. Fowler, you called me.”

“Where’s Macie? Why didn’t shee pick me up?” Edward grumbled, clearly starting to sulk.

Sharon quickly interjected, “I’m sorry, Nathan. Ed had a little too much to drink. He won’t be going to the

office this afternoon. I’ll take him home.”
