Invitation 79

    Chapter 79

Edward wondered when he had signed the divorce agreement. Macie never gave him any documents!

If he had seen it, there was no way he would have signed it. His mind raced, trying to figure out where things had gone wrong. He sensed something amiss as he rubbed the piece of paper between his fingers.

The signature didn’t have the texture of ink. It was…

Edward held it up to the light, squinting. A photocopy?

He rubbed it again, confirming that it was indeed a copy. His initial panic subsided, quickly reced by a

    fresh wave of anger.

“Macie! You lunatic! You faked a photocopy to mess with me!” Edward snarled through gritted teeth.

He had thought that it was a real divorce agreement with his actual signature. It turned out to be just a

prank! All that panic and confusion for nothing.

Wait, no. Edward wasn’t panicking. He was just angry and confused about when he supposedly signed it!

Edward stood up and red at the shredded pieces on the floor. In a fit of rage, he stomped on them,

grinding the paper into the ground.

The friend requests he’d sent were still unanswered. Frustrated, he sent another one, this timeced with

    his anger.

Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Macie’s phone on the table kept vibrating intermittently. Finally, Alice

looked up and asked, “Who’s this telemarketer? Let me see. I’ll give them a piece of my mind and make sure they never dare to spam you again.”

She reached for Macie’s phone, but Macie grabbed it first and ced it on the couch beside her.

“I’ll delete his contactter,” Macie said, switching the phone off so it wouldn’t vibrate anymore.

“I just bought a new ce, and he’s a furniture salesman,” she added, offering a usible exnation to

stop Alice from asking further questions.

“I get that he’s struggling with sales, but this is harassment. Just report him,” Alice said. <fn81fd> The source of th?s content is find{n}ovel</fn81fd>

Macie nodded, and the two continued their meal.

Shortly after, Alice went to grab more beer. Macie took her phone, turned it back on and checked the flood of messages from the “telemarketer” who had sent over 20 frantic friend requests.

“Macie, you deleted my contact? How dare you!

“Why aren’t you home if you’ve been discharged? Where are you messing around? Are you with that other

    man?

“Damn it, Macie. If you dare cheat on me, I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life!”

The messages continued. It was a mix of insults and demands for Macie to unblock Edward’s contact. Macie’s expression remained cold, her eyes devoid of emotion.

She thought that Edward was such an idiot. She and Julian had never been more than friends, yet he was

jumping to conclusions like a paranoid fool.

And even if there had been something between them, he didn’t have a right to question her. After all, hadn’t he already thrown her under the bus, siding with that other woman and humiliating her?

Still, it had been two days since Macie left. She wondered if he had seen the divorce papers yet. If he had,

he shouldn’t even care where she was now.

After scrolling through the messages, Macie finally understood. At first, he hadn’t found the papers she’d left in the nightstand drawer.

“You lunatic! Did you use a photocopy to scare me? Do you think I’m a fool who can’t tell the difference?

“You’d better get your ass back here, and I’ll let this little prank slide.

“My patience is running thin. If you don’t reply within three minutes, then don’t me me for what happens next.

“Don’t make mee find you, or you’ll regret it!”

After reading the messages, Macie rolled her eyes hard. She thought that Edward was insane.

He said he wasn’t a fool? Indeed, he wasn’t a fool. He was aplete idiot.

If Edward already knew it was a photocopy, how had it not urred to him that there was an original? He had called this a prank. But who would have the time to prank him?
