Evelina lowered her head, fear etching every line of her face, but her eyes remained dark and unreadable.
She would never willingly leave the Langston family.
Limping out of the hospital room, she saw Asher approaching. Without a second thought, she feigned weakness and copsed to the ground.
Asher rushed to her side, cradling Evelina in his arms. "What''s wrong? How did you get so hurt?"
Evelina weakly shook her head. "I''m fine, but I need to apologize to Lemmy, clear the air about the past, and get her to forgive Caspian." But as soon as she finished speaking, Evelina pretended to faint. She had no intention of apologizing to Lemira.
Asher immediately called for a doctor to take Evelina away, then turned to confront Caspian in the hospital room. "It''s one thing to teach Eve a lesson, but did you have to go so hard on her? She''s got a fractured rib!" "Asher, don''t y the good guy with me. Wasn''t it you who insisted Evelina leave with me yesterday? Don''t act like you didn''t know. I would nevery a hand on her!"
Asher''s expression flickered ufortably. "That doesn''t justify you nearly killing her. Her dad died saving our parents. If this gets out, how do you expect the Langstons to show their faces?"
"But, Asher, remember, it was this witch who stirred the pot, causing me tosh out at Lemira too!"
"Caspian, you might be soft on Lemira now, but she hasn''t shown any mercy. Maybe you should think about how to handle the fallout from that live-streamed assault."
Caspian stood his ground. "Evelina clearing the air and getting Lemira to vent will ensure she doesn''t pursue this matter too harshly."
After all, he was also a victim, deceived by Evelina.
Asher scoffed. "Well, that''s your mess to clean up, not mine."
In the next room over, Evelina quietly woke up, realizing she had indeed fractured a rib, which exined the pain.
She texted: "Caspian nearly killed me. Why should I continue ying the victim?"
"The worse Caspian beats you, the more sympathy andpensation you''ll get from Asher and Lucian. Money is what matters. Once you''ve drained the Langstons dry, you won''t have to worry about them anymore." Evelina thought back to the recent meeting with her father, shocked to find him still alive.
She inquired about the car ident, and her father
mentioned he had bet
prior engagement that day, so a friend was driving instead.
Evelina felt her father wasn''t telling the whole truth.
SWI
The Langstons had always said her father was the driver; when did the story change? But she didn''t press further, content knowing her father was working on a solution.
Evelina seethed with hatred. Once
the Langston family was bankrune
and she was in a position of power, she''d make sure they all paid a steep price!
Barely asleep, Evelina was rudely dragged from her bed.
BUMS
Caspian looked at her coldly. "No time for sleep. Time to apologize to Lemira."
The sooner this was settled, the sooner he''d be free of trouble.
Evelina had no chance to resist; Caspian forced her toe along.
Lemira, having received Caspian''s message, was indifferent to seeing anyone from the Langston family.
But things were different now.
She headed straight to the underground parking lot, noting Caspian''s caution to avoid the media. Emerging from the elevator, Lemira saw Caspian dragging Evelina by her hair out of the car.
Spotting Evelina, bruised and
battered, Lemira couldn''t help but
smirk. "Evelina, surely you
understand your ce now. You''re just a driver''s daughter. How dare youpare yourself to me?"
Pushing Evelina to the brink would force the hidden hand to reveal itself.
Hearing these words, Evelina''s anger red, her gaze burning with hatred towards Lemira.
