Chapter 174

    Adrian POV

“I’ve checked everywhere. There are no security cameras installed in this area to protect guests‘ privacy,” Garrett said with visible frustration, running his hand through his damp hair.

I paced back and forth across the hotel lobby, my mind racing through every possible scenario of what might have happened to Skye. The tight knot in my stomach grew with each passing minute.

“But this hot spring belongs to the House of Representatives,” Ethan said optimistically. “Nobody can just walk in except for staff and VIP guests.” He paused, his expression softening. “Maybe she just went out for a run? My sister has always been headstrong. She once left home without telling anyone.”

I shot Ethan an irritated nce. “The Skye I know isn’t impulsive or irresponsible. She’s extremely disciplined and has a strong sense of duty.”

Leon checked his watch with an impatient gesture. “If you want to stay and help, then stay,” he told Ethan tly. “She is your sister, after all.” Without another word, he turned and walked away.

Ethan watched him leave before turning back to me. “Have you and Skye offended anyone recently? Or noticed anything strange happening?”

His question triggered a memory that made my blood run cold. I recalled Skye being locked in an oven, suffering burns. The electrical switch coated with honey that was chewed through by mice…

Self–reproach washed over me. I’d been too careless, toocent.

Nothing unusual had happened in the past few days, so I hadn’t taken Maya’s previous warnings seriously. But now, doubt and fear crawled through my mind like poison.

Yet one question kept repeating itself: if someone wanted to kill me, why target Skye?

Rage and terror simultaneously surged through my veins.

    Leon’s POV

I didn’t return to the hotel as I’d implied. Instead, I drove straight to the North American House of Representatives building.

In the privacy of my car, I cursed Adrian under my breath. What kind of useless Alpha couldn’t even protect one woman? I’d heard his previous Beta was female too, and she ended up dead at the hands of the former Gravestone Pack Alpha. Now Skye was with him, and she’d mysteriously vanished.

I couldn’t understand what these women saw in him that inspired such devotion. The thought made my anger spike, and before I realized it, I had pulled up at the entrance of the House of Representatives.

If only staff and invited guests could ess that hot spring, then perhaps Elder Selene would need to get involved to find any leads.

A guard stopped me at the entrance. When he recognized who I was, he quickly lowered his head. Alpha Leon, what brings you here sote? Is there something I can assist you with?”

“I need to see Elder Selene,” I stated firmly. “Please inform her.”

‘Do you have an appointment, sir?” the guard asked hesitantly.

“No, but this is urgent. Go and inform her now.”

The guard stood his ground. “I’m very sorry, but we have strict protocols. An appointment is required.”

Growing impatient, I moved to push past him. Just then, another car pulled up, and Adrian stepped out. Our eyes met, and I could tell he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him.

Ethan approached me with a friendly nod. “Alpha Leon, I thought you’d gone back to the hotel. Are you here to ask Elder Selene about Skye too?”

“I’m only here because I don’t want this to affect my election in two days,” I replied coldly.

The guard, seeing the growing group at the entrance, finally relented and went to notify Elder Selene.

We waited in silence. Adrian, typicallyposed and controlled, now resembled an agitated animal, shifting his weight from foot to foot, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings.

Suddenly, the silence was broken by a phone ringing. Adrian quickly answered, and I watched as the color drained from his face.

The call ended abruptly with a series of beeps loud enough for all of us to hear.

“Who was it?” Ethan and the masked woman asked in unison.

Adrian’s voice was tight with controlled rage. “I don’t know. He said Skye is in his hands now. If we want to ensure her safety, we need to follow his instructions”

The words hung in the night air like a death sentence. I felt a strange twisting in my chest that I refused to acknowledge as concern for Skye. After all, she was just my mate by fate’s cruel joke, nothing more.

But as I looked at Adrian’s devastated expression, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to this story than a simple kidnapping.

Someone was ying a dangerous game, and Skye had somehow be a central piece on the board.
