Chapter 180
Skye’s POV
I pounded on the door.
The chaotic noise insideughter, clinking bottles, and low growls–died down. The door creaked open, just a sliver, and a wave of cigarette smoke and stale beer hit me.
Through the gap, I saw two men huddled around a card table, their eyes snapping to me. The air felt thick, heavy with something predatory. These weren’t ordinary guys. They were werewolves. Rogues, by the look of them–unkempt, rough, with a wild edge to their
stares.
I’d jumped out of one mess only tond in another. <fn60f3> Follow current nov?ls on find?novel</fn60f3>
The guy who opened the door leaned against the frame, his gaze crawling over me like I was something to eat. His buddies at the table froze, cards forgotten, their eyes lighting up.
One of them let out a low whistle.
“Well, damn. What’s tonight, our lucky night? A pretty girl shows up at our door? This is too good to be true.”
The guy at the door smirked, his teeth yellowed, his voice dripping with sleaze. “Hey, sweetheart, what’s the deal? You lost or something?”
I was still catching my breath from running, my chest heaving. “Sorry to bother you,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “Can I borrow a phone? I need to make a call. I’ll make it worth your while.”
“Worth our while?” The guy at the door chuckled, and the other twoughed, the sound rough and hungry. “Oh, honey, what kind of payment you offering?”
The other two stood, closing in on me, their grins twisted with something ugly.
The one closest to the table licked his lips. “How about a little touch? Maybe a kiss? Or, hell, why stop there? We let you use the phone all you want if you y nice.”
Fury exploded in my chest, hot and sharp. I’d had a hell of a day, nearly lost my life, and now I was stuck with these rogue creeps?
No way!
The guy by the door reached for me, his hands aiming for my chest. I moved fast, grabbing his arm, twisting it back until I heard a crack. My foot mmed into the back of his knee, and he dropped, howling.
“Fuck! Let go!”
The other two froze for a second, then stepped forward, their faces darkening. My eyes darted to the one on the left, and my stomach
lurched.
He looked so much like Kane–tall, red hair, a jagged scar slicing down his face. But he was leaner, sharper. Kane was dead. I’d seen his head roll. This guy wasn’t him. Just a cruel coincidence. I forced myself to breathe, to focus.

The Kane lookalike tilted his head, sizing me up. “Not bad,” he said, his voice low, almost Impressed. “Not many female wolves can move like that. You’re a fighter, huh?”
He stepped closer and pried my grip off his buddy’s arm with ease, his strength unnerving. This guy was the leader, no question. The one on the floor scrambled back, still cursing under his breath.
I squared my shoulders, meeting his gaze. “I’m Skye, Beta of the Oasisborn pack. I just need to borrow a phone to call my Alpha, Adrian. I don’t want trouble. Help me out, and I’ll make sure you’re rewarded.”
The scarred guy raised an eyebrow. “Adrian? The one who took down Kane and tore apart the Gravestone pack?”
“Yeah,” I said, keeping my voice firm. “That’s him. He’s already passed three trials in the Alpha King selection. He’s on track to win. Help his Beta, and he’ll owe you. Big time.”
The guy on the floor snorted, rubbing his arm.
“A favor from some Alpha King wannabe? That’s a long shot, sweetheart. Promises don’t mean shit.”
The third rogue, a stocky guy with a shaved head, ughed. “Yeah, why wait for some future payoff when we got something way better right here?” His eyes raked over me, and I fought the urge to gag.
The scarred guy didn’tugh. He just watched me, his expression unreadable. “Adrian’s got a reputation,” he said slowly. “But my boys are right. A bird in the hand’s worth more than some Alpha’s IOU. Who’s to say you’ll even follow through?”
I took a step back, my heart pounding. The guy I’d dropped was back on his feet, looking ready to lunge again. I needed to shut this down
fast.
“Hold on,” I said, raising my hands. “I’m not just Adrian’s Beta. I’m also Alpha Leon’s mate. From the Frostshadow pack. You touch me, and I swear, both of them will hunt you down. You won’t walk away from that.”
For the first time, I was d Leon was still my mate. It was leverage, and I’d use it.
The stocky guy’s face twisted, his brow furrowing. “Alpha Leon? The bastard who locked us up four years ago?”
I blinked, caught off guard. “You know Leon?”
The scarred guy’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Know him? Oh, we go way back.”
The way he said it sent a chill down my spine. There was history there, and not the good kind. I cursed myself for bringing up Leon’s name. Their expressions shifted–anger, resentment, something darker.
I edged back toward the door, ready to bolt. But the scarred guy moved faster, mming the door shut with a flick of his wrist. The lock clicked, trapping me inside.
My mind raced. If it came to it, I’d fight. I’d go down swinging before I let them touch me. No way was I letting these rogues win.
But the scarred guy didn’t make a move. He just stood there, studying me, his eyes narrowing like he was weighing his options.
After a long moment, he spoke.

“I’ll help you. But I’ve got one condition.”
